Senior Captain Sode Scores Game Winner in MD2 Senior Night Comeback Win

The MD2 team took on familiar foe Trine University Thunder this Sunday evening in their final game of the regular season and senior night at Arrington Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs fell behind 2-0 going into the middle frame and Brett Siewertsen would score the first Bulldog goal of the night at the 5:08 mark of the first period. Trine would answer back at the 6:13 mark to make things 1-3. Will Nicholson would pick off a sloppy pass from the Thunder on the Bulldog penalty kill at the 9:55 mark to cut the Trine lead to one once again. The 2-3 score would hold through the end of the second.

Dominik Miculcak would send home a shot from the blue line on the Bulldog powerplay to make things and even 3-3 with 6:14 remaining in the contest. Trine would pull ahead for the final time at the 8:48 mark of the third. Devin Whitaker would tie things up once again for the Bulldogs with only ninety seconds to play off of an unassisted breakaway goal. Senior captain Alex Sode would be the senior night hero, picking the nearside corner to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead.

The Bulldogs defense would hold off the Thunder for the final fifty seconds and the Class of 2021 would go out with a huge win, their third straight win over the Thunder, to head into the 2021 MD2 National Tournament. Ben Perone would pick up the win in his final game at Arrington Ice Arena.

The MD2 team now heads to North Dakota in three weeks to kick off the ACHA MD2 National Tournament, making their first appearance in the National Tournament since 2018.
