Men's Varsity Goes 2-2 in 4 Game Week

The Men's NCAA team took on the USNTDP's U-18 team and Concordia University (Wisc.) in a pair of games against each this past week both at home and on the road.


First up was the Concordia Falcons on the road last Saturday afternoon in Wisconsin.


The Bulldogs came out with four unanswered goals to start the first period. Nick Lund would grab the first of the four at the 4:56 mark of the first with the lone assist from Zach Goberis. Rex Moe would add the second with assists from Alessio Luciani and Connor May. Andrew Bellant would add the third of four at the 14:35 mark with assists from Goberis and Chase Spencer. Moe's second of the game would come on the powerplay a minute after Bellant's goal. Luciani and Lund would assist. Concordia would score their first of the game with 17:03 gone in the first and the Bulldogs would hold a 4-1 lead going into the second from.


The Falcons would make things 4-2 on the powerplay five minutes into the second period. Luciani would answer back with a goal of his own ten minutes later and the two teams would head into the third with a 5-2 score. May and Moe would assist on Luciani's goal.


The Falcons would once again strike on the powerplay at the 4:33 mark of the third period to pull within two. They'd get within one five minutes later off of an even strength goal. Moe would tally his third of the game halfway through the third with assists from Luciani and May. Luciani would add his second goal of the game with an empty net goal to seal the deal for the visiting Bulldogs with 26 seconds remaining in the contest.


Final score would be 7-4 in favor of the Bulldogs with Nic Tallarico picking up the win in net, playing 31:00 of 60;00 and making 13 saves on 15 shots. Cameron Gray would play 28;58 of the contest making 11 saves on 13 shots.


The Bulldogs would be on the road once again the next afternoon against the US National Team Development Program's U-18 team in Plymouth, Michigan.


Team USA would jump to a 3-0 lead in the first period of. They'd add two more in the second period and the Bulldogs would be down by a score of 5-0 going into the third. Team USA would add three quick goals in the first four minutes to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Jacob Breckles would score the only Bulldog goal of the game at the 5:41 mark of the third period with the lone assist going to Zach Goberis. Team USA would add one more goal on the powerplay and the Bulldogs would fall to Team USA 9-1.


The Bulldogs would face off the Falcons once again on Tuesday night at Arrington Ice Arena.


Trevor Coykendall would give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Nick Lund and Grant Baetson would assist.


Connor May would make things 2-0 in the second period with only 48 seconds remaining in the period. Zach Goberis and Chase Spencer would assist.


The Falcons would come within one at the 6:59 mark on an unassisted goal. Andrew Bellant would give the Bulldogs a two goal lead once again with 1:04 left in the game. The Falcons would add another with 29 seconds left in the game but the Bulldogs would hold them off for the rest of the period and come out with the win.


Dershann Stewart would pick up his first win in a Bulldog sweater on Tuesday night, making 29 saves on 31 shots.


The Bulldogs and Team USA would take the ice at Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday night to cap off a four game week for the Bulldogs.


Nick Lund would score the first goal of the game at 6:46 of the first period with assists from Trevor Coykendall and Grant Baetson. Team USA would tie things up six minutes later and the two teams would be tied 1-1 going into the second period.


Team USA would score four unanswered goals in the second frame before Rex Moe would cut the lead down to 5-2 with 1:56 remaining in the second period. Connor May and Lund would assist.


Team USA would regain the four goal lead with a powerplay goal in the third period. Grant Beatsonw Ould score a pair of goals at the 4:06 and 12:47 mark to pull within two goals of USA. Josh Owings and Lund would assist on the first and Lund and Coykendall would assist on the second. USA would score an empty net goal in the final seconds of the game for a 4-7 loss for the Bulldogs.


The Men's NCAA team will be back at Arrington Ice Arena this coming weekend on Saturday, January 23rd at 4:05 pm against MSOE. They host the USNTDP on Sunday at 2:05 pm.
