MD3 Sweeps UM Flint




The MD3 team took on longtime rival the University of Michigan at Flint this weekend in a home at home series with the Wolverines.


The two teams first squared off on the road in Burton, Michigan, on Saturday night. The two teams would go through the first twenty minutes of play scoreless before the Wolverines drew first blood at the 6:20 mark of the second period. Austin Brining would even things out for the Bulldogs at the 12:55 mark with an assist from Zach Bagozzi. The Wolverines would pull ahead once again with less than three minutes remaining in the second to go up 2-1 to go into the final frame of regulation.


Captain Ryan Pinho would tie the game at the 12:36 mark of the third frame with assists from Garrett Carroll and Zack Major. The two teams would fail to find the back of the net during regulation and head to overtimes.

Major would be the hero only 1:05 gone in the overtime period to send the Bulldogs back home with a win. Rex Goldberg would pick up the win between the pipes for the Bulldogs Saturday night.

The same two teams would take to the ice once again on Sunday afternoon, this time at Arrington Ice Arena.


The Bulldogs would score first at the 2:08 mark with Evan Bliss's fourth of the season. Antonio Briggs-Blake would be awarded the lone assist. The second frame would be scoreless and the Bulldogs would head into the final twenty minutes with a 1-0 lead.


Zack Major's second of the weekend would come on the powerplay at the 7:13 mark of the third period for a 2-0 lead. Matt Borucki and Devin Bennett would assist. Borucki would net back to back goals in the next ten minutes for a more comfortable 4-0 Bulldog lead. His first goal would come at the 13:22 mark on an unassisted powerplay goal and his second would come even strength at the 17:08 mark assisted by Briggs-Blake. Ryan Pinho would net his second of the weekend in the final minute of the game with the lone assist going to Bliss.


Final score Sunday evening would be 5-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with Brandon Hiuser picking up his first collegiate win and shutout in net.


The D3 team returns to Arrington Ice Arena Sunday, October 16th against the Lake Superior State Lakers at 4pm.
