MD3 Sweeps Three Game Weekend




The MD3 team took on the Calvin University Knights and the Trine University Thunder this weekend.


The Bulldogs first took on the Knights on Friday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena. Henry Gabriel would score first for the Bulldogs with assists from Ganon Eichman and Dalton Anderson. The Knights would even the score 12 minutes later. Anderson would give the Bulldogs the lead once again at 17:07 mark of the third with assists from Dominic Melone and Tomas Hornicek.


Ryan Pinho would give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead halfway through the second period of play. Daniel Bennet and Zack Major would assist. Bennett would score one of his own on the powerplay before the end of the period to give the Bulldogs a three goal lead going into the final frame.


Gabriel's second of the game would come at the 3:46 mark of the third period on the powerplay with the lone assist going to Anderson. The Knights would answer with a powerplay goal of their own to make things 5-2 but Zach Van Antwerp would make sure the Bulldogs got the last word, scoring the sixth of the game at the 7:09 mark of the third. Hornicek would be awarded the lone assist on Van Antwerp's goal.

Dylan Zelko would pick up the win between the pipes as the Bulldogs skated away with a 6-2 victory over the Knights.


The two teams would face each other once again Saturday night in Grand Rapids.


The Knights would score once in the first and once at the 4:40 mark of the second to go up 2-0 on the visiting Bulldogs. Cameron Mercer would pull the Dawgs within one at the 16:50 mark of the second on the powerplay with assists to Matheiu Barrette and Dominic Sommerville.


Ryan Pinho's second of the weekend would tie the game at two a piece with only 3:57 gone in the final frame. Sommerville would pick up the lone assist on Pinho's powerplay goal. Dominic Melone would give the Bulldogs their first lead of the night three minutes later, once again on the powerplay, with assists going to Dalton Anderson and Henry Gabriel. Anderson would score a goal of his own to make it four unanswered goals for the visiting Bulldogs with the assist going to Daniel Bennett.


Final score Saturday in Grand Rapids would be 4-2 in favor of the Bulldogs with Dylan Zelko picking up the win once again.


The final contest of the weekend for the Bulldogs would be on the road in Angola, Indiana against the Trine University Thunder.


Ryan Pinho would make it three goals in three games, scoring at the 3:06 mark of the first period. Dominic Melone would snag the lone assist. Zach Van Antwerp's second of the weekend would come 28 seconds later to give the Bulldogs a quick 2-0 lead. Tomas Hornicek would pick up the assist on Van Antwerp's goal.


Melone would grab the final goal of the game only 3:31 into the second period with a lone assist going to Vinny Sansone.


Final score in Angola would be 3-0 in favor of the Road Dawgs with Dylan Zelko picking up the win and shutout between the pipes.

The Bulldogs take the ice once again tonight against the Trine Thunder, this time at Arrington Ice Arena at 7:00 pm.
