MD2 Sweeps Weekend, Tops Purdue NW and BGSU
The MD2 team took on two different opponents on home ice this weekend, first being the Purdue Northwest Pride and second being the BGSU Falcons.
The Bulldogs faced off against the Pride first on Saturday night at Arrington Ice Arena. The Pride would strike first, scoring at the 2:55 mark of the first period. Willie McGuire would tie things up for the Bulldogs at the 3:51 mark of the first period off of an unassisted goal. Steven Ferraro's first as a Bulldog would give the Dawgs a 2-1 lead with 9:55 gone in the first. Zach McDonough would assist. Dominick Yamarino would find the back of the net less than a minute later to give the Bulldogs a two goal lead heading into the second period with the lone assist going to Whitaker.
Dominik Mikulcak's second of the year would come forty seconds into the second period to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead in the powerplay. The Pride would score midway through the second period and send the two teams back into the locker room after two with only two goals separating them.
Alex Sode would notch his first of the night at the 6:38 mark of the third to give the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead. Mikulcak's second of the game would give the Bulldogs a 6-2 lead, once again on the powerplay.
Final score Saturday night would be 6-2 in favor of the Bulldogs with CJ Sheridan picking up the win in net.
The Bulldogs would take on the Falcons of BGSU Sunday afternoon for the third time in the last ten days at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Falcons would strike first at the 7:30 mark of the first period for an early lead. Jiri Sup would tie things up before the halfway point of the first period. A quick response goal from Alex Sode with give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead heading into the second.
The Falcons would score on the powerplay at the 8:15 mark of the second period to tie things up at two a piece. Deven Whitaker would break the tie with 10:52 gone in the second and pull the Bulldogs ahead by a score of 3-2. Steven Cope would score 4 on 4 with less than three minutes left in the third and the Bulldogs would take a 4-2 lead into the third period. Sup's second of the game would make things 5-2 for the bulldogs and be the final goal of the game, coming at the 15:05 mark of the third period.
Ben Perone would pick up the win in net as the Bulldogs grabbed their second victory of the weekend.
The Bulldogs take the ice once again at Arrington Ice Arena on Friday night when they host the Concordia University Falcons at 7:00 pm before hitting the road the next day to take on Concordia on the road.
