MD2 Sweeps Marian Showcase, Brings Home Four Game Win Streak
The MD2 team travelled to Marian University in Fon du Loc, Wisconsin for a three game showcase this past weekend, taking on Davenport University, Dakota College at Bottineau and Marian University.
The Bulldogs would first take on in state opponent Davenport University Panthers on Friday night in Wisconsin. The Bulldogs would come out with a convincing 6-2 win with goals from Dominic Melone, Dominick Yamarino, Anderson O'Conner and Sam Carp (2). Freshman Petr Sup would pick up his first win as a Bulldog between the pipes while only allowing two goals in his first contest.
Saturday night's contest would be against the Lumberjacks of Dakota College at Bottineau. Matyas Mach would strike first with less than two minutes gone in the first with the lone assist going to Joey Finfer. Dominic Melone would put the Bulldogs up by two before the Lumberjacks cut the lead in half. Melone would score shorthanded before the period's end to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead going into the second period.
The Lumberjacks would score a powerplay goal in each of the remaining periods to take things to overtime, which would go by scoreless. Danny Fielding would stop three of four shots in the shootout while Sam Carper would score first in the shootout and Will Nicholson would net the eventual winner.
Final score would be 4-3 in favor of the Bulldogs with Fielding picking up the win in net.
The Bulldogs went up against the host team, the Marian University Sabres, on Sunday afternoon to wrap up their three games in three days weekend in Wisconsin.
The Bulldogs would strike first in another back and forth contest off of freshman Sincere Toto's first goal as a Bulldog at the 4:40 mark of the first. Toto's goal would be assisted by Collin O'Rourke and Dominic Melone. The Sabres would even things at 1-1 less than a minute later off of a powerplay goal. The Bulldogs would regain their lead at the 11:13 mark of the first with a goal from Matyas Mach with a lone assist going to Adam Hoff. Captain Dominick Yamarino would give the Bulldogs a two goal lead at the 15:22 mark of the first period with an assist from Willie McGuire. The Sabres would pull within one once again on a five on three powerplay at the 17:09 mark. After one, the Bulldogs would hold a 3-2 lead.
The Sabres would tie things up even strength 1:19 into the second period. A goal from McGuire thirty-six seconds later would give the Bulldogs the edge once again with assists going to Yamatino and Shaun Potts. The Sabres would tie the game once again with less than a minute remaining in the middle frame and the two teams would head into the third deadlocked at 4 a piece.
Sam Carper would be the hero with 15:44 gone in the final frame, scoring the eventual game winner with an assist from Greg Obrycki.
Final score Sunday afternoon would be 5-4 in favor of the Bulldogs with Alex Herman picking up the win in net.
The Bulldogs head back out on the road this weekend for a single game against Central Michigan at noon. They return home the weekend after, October 22nd, also at noon, when they take on the Indiana Tech Warriors.
