MD2 Sweeps Lake Superior State in First Series of 2021




The MD2 team took the ice for the first time in the new year this past weekend in a two game homestand at Arrington Ice Arena.


Dominick Yamarino would start the scoring Saturday night with a goal coming at the 2:46 mark of the first period with the assist going to Quinn Proctor. Joey Finfer would make things 2-0 with his first goal as a Bulldog at the 14:55 mark of the first period with Brett Siewertsen picking up the assist.


Dominik Mikulcak would extend the lead to 3-0 with the lone goal of the middle frame with the lone assist being awarded to Justin Session.


Yamarino would add his second of the game at the 3:19 mark of the third period. Julian Johnson and Teddy Tarvis would assist. Cole Webber would pick up his first as a Bulldog with 5:40 gone in the third with an assist from Devin Whittaker. Zach McDonough would add to the score with his first of the year at the 12:19 mark of the third with an assist from Logan Eggleston. The Lakers would respond with their lone goal of the game shortly after to cut the lead down to 6-1.


Final score Saturday night would be 6-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Ben Perone picking up the win in net.


The same two teams would square off once again on Sunday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena and this time it would be Devin Whittaker giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead at the 6:10 mark of the first period. Zach McDonough would be awarded the lone assist. Alex Sode would give the Bulldogs the 2-0 lead on a 2 on 1 at the 15:25 mark. Logan Eggleston and Mitch Kellerman would assist.


Quinn Proctor would tally his first Bulldog goal early in the second period to give the home team a 3-0 advantage with assists from Mitch Kellerman and Willie McGuire. Cole Weber would snag his second of the weekend to extend the lead to 4-0 minutes later with the lone assist going to Quinn Proctor.


Teddy Tarvis would grab the 5th goal of the game in the second half of the final frame with assists from Dominick Yamarino and Steven Cope. The Lakers would cut the lead down to 5-1 with an even strength goal and then a powerplay goal before the end of the period. The Bulldogs would respond in the final 1:54 of the game with two more goals. Eggleston's first as a Bulldog would come with :39 remaining in the game with an assist from McDonough and McGuire. McGuire would snag a goal of his own with 9 seconds left to give the Bulldogs a 7-2 victory.


Final score at Arrington Ice Arena would be 7-2 in favor of the Bulldogs for their first sweep in their second series of the season and CJ Sheridan picking up a win between the pipes.


The D2 team will take the ice on the road for their next game against Bowling Green State University on February 5th. They return to Arrington Ice Arena on February 7th at 2:30 pm to face the Eagles once again.
