MD2 Opens 2020 With Split Against Concordia
The MD2 team opened their season this weekend with a home-at-home series with the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons.
The Bulldogs first travelled to Wisconsin Saturday afternoon where they would grab the first lead of the game with a goal from freshman Willie McGuire. The visiting Bulldogs would take the 1-0 lead into the second frame but would fall behind 1-2 after a pair of powerplay goals against in the second and add a third in the middle from. McGuire would grab himself a two goal debut for the Bulldogs to pull within two, but the Falcons would regain the two goal lead off of another powerplay goal. The final score in Wisconsin Saturday afternoon would be 2-5.
The Bulldogs looked to bounce back in their first home game of the season and would lead 1-0 after a goal from Alex Sode midway through the first period.
Jiri Sup would put the Bulldogs up 2-0 in the second period with an assist from Will Nicholson. Nicholson would notch his first as a Bulldog three minutes later to give the Bulldogs a solid 3-0 lead. The Falcons would cut the lead to 3-1 with a powerplay goal before the end of the second but the Bulldogs would take a 3-1 lead into the final frame.
Devin Whittaker would snag a shorthanded breakaway goal to put the Dawgs up 4-1 at the 2:07 mark of the third period on an unassisted goal. Sode would score twice more before the game’s end for a hat trick for the senior captain. Justin Session would assist on Sode’s second goal while Steven Ferrari would assist on the second.
Ben Perone would pick up the win in net for the Bulldogs. Final score would be 6-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
the two teams will meet up once again in another home at home series on November 13th and 15th.
