MD1 Sweeps Aquinas in First Series With Saints




The MD1 team took on the Aquinas Saints for the first time since the Saints moved up to Division I this semester in a home at home series.


The two teams first took the ice at Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday night. The two teams would be scoreless through the first twenty minutes of play before Chris Donaldson would net the icebreaker at 12:15 of the second period. Tyler Fyfe and Brenden Stanko would assist.


Captain Dan Stone would net the second goal of the game less than five minutes into the third period with the lone assist going to Manny Silverio. Austin Kuhn would go in all alone on the penalty kill and grab a shorthanded goal for his first of the year at the 6:13 mark of the final frame. Aquinas would cut the lead to 2 a minute later on the powerplay. Brenden Stanko would give the Bulldogs the three goal lead once again with 1:32 to play with the lone assist going to DeVon Fields and the Bulldogs would take the win in game one at home with Andrew Wagner picking up the win in net.


The two teams would square off in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday night.


This time, the Saints would strike first only 20 seconds into the game. It would be all Bulldogs after that though with the Road Dawgs netting eight unanswered goals int he net 59:40 of game play.


Captain Dan Stone's second of the weekend tied things at 1 for the Bulldogs at the 2:56 mark of the first period. Nash Hatcher and Austin Kuhn would assist. Dominic Moore would give the Bulldogs their first lead of the game at the 17:22 mark of the first, getting helpers from Sam Spaedt and Tyler Fyfe.


Connor Smith would net a powerplay tally for the first goal of the second period at the 11:11 mark of the period. Brodie Thornton and Manny Silverio would assist. Silverio would grab a goal of his own three minutes later for his first of the season with assists from Stone and Spaedt. Matteo DiGiulio would round out the scoring in the middle frame with a goal coming at the 15:17 mark. Chris Donaldson and Stone would assist.


Smith would tally his second of the game at the 2:40 mark of the third period, this time at even strength. Brenden Stanko and Mike Finger would assist. DiGiulio would net his second of the game on the powerplay, catching a beauty of a saucer pass from goaltender Andrew Wagner, who would pick up the assist on the goal. Tyler Fyfe would score his first of the weekend at the 16:24 mark of the final frame while on the powerplay. Stanko and Jordan Oshowy would assist.


The Dawgs would once again be victorious on Saturday night on the road by a score of 8-1 with Andrew Wagner picking up another win in net.


The Dawgs hit the ice at Arrington Ice Arena once again on Wednesday night when they take on Indiana Tech at 7:00 pm.
