MD1 Skates By UM Dearborn and GVSU




The MD1 team took on two different teams this past weekend, UM Dearborn at home and then the Grand Valley State University Lakers on the road on Saturday night.


Thursday night was rivalry night at Arrington Ice Arena as the Bulldogs took on decade old foe the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines.


Dylan Gajewski struck first for the Bulldogs only 1:05 into the first period. Sebastian Smith would be awarded the lone assist. Connor Smith would strike on the powerplay with his ninth goal of the season with an assist from Matteo DiGiulio.


Both teams would go scoreless through the second period before the Wolverines cut the Bulldog lead in half at the 4:05 mark of the third. Henrik Overvall would put the Bulldogs up by two once again at the 7:27 mark of the third, sending home a rebound from Matt Dicesare and Ethan McLaughlin. The Wolverines would make it a one goal game with 1:36 left in the game, but Noah Decottignies and the Bulldogs would hold them off through the rest of the game to come out with the win.


Final score Thursday night would be a 3-2 Rivalry Night win for the Bulldogs with Decottingies picking up the win between the pipes.


The Bulldogs took to the road Saturday night against Grand Valley State University for the first time since their loss against the Lakers in the GLCHL Semifinals in March.


Matteo DiGiulio would put the Bulldogs on the board first late in the first frame. Connor Smith and Justin Jamer would assist.


The Lakers would even things up on a 4 on 3 powerplay at the 3:34 mark of the second, but the rest of the game would be all Bulldogs. Connor Smith's tenth of the season would put the Bulldogs up by one once again ten minutes after the Laker goal. DiGiulio and Dakota Bohn would assist on Smith's powerplay goal. Tyler Fyfe would send home a backdoor goal off of a tic tac toe play from Henrik Overvall a little over a minute later to make things 3-1 heading into the third period. Overvall would pick up the single assist on Fyfe's goal.


Sebastian Smith's second of the season would put the Bulldogs up 4-1 with 4:37 gone in the third period with an assist from Sheldon Nolan. Brenden Stanko would send home his second of the season as well in the third period, this time with the assist going to Bohn. Bohn would tally his first of the year at the 15:24 mark of the third with assists from Fyfe and DiGiulio. Matt Dicesare would send home one on the rush with only 49 seconds left in the game to go up 7-1 with Dylan Kent tallying the lone assist.


Final score Saturday night would be 7-1 with Decottignies picking up the win in net for the Dawgs.


The Bulldogs are back in action at Arrington Ice Arena on Friday night and Saturday afternoon in a two game home series against the Liberty Flames.
