MD1 Sends Two Dozen Past Roosevelt in Sweep of Lakers
The MD1 team took on the Roosevelt University Lakers this weekend in a two game home series, their first two game homestand of the season.
Matteo DiGiulio scored his first of the season to kick things off Friday night at Arrington Ice Arena. Sebastian Smith and Sheldon Nolan would assist. Henrik Overvall would score the other goal of the first period four minutes later at the 11:37 mark with assists from Cameron Armstrong and Matt Cruz.
Connor Smith would net the first of what would be six second period goals 1:35 into the middle frame.Dakota Bohn would get the lone assist. Matt Dicesare would net another twenty seconds later with assists from Connor Smith and Ethan McLaughlin. Justin Jamer would net his first on home ice and second of the season at the 6:36 mark of the second with assists from Nathaniel Mott and Connor Smith. Sam Spaedt would light the lamp for the fourth time in three games with assists from Dylan Gajewski and Sebastian Smith to make things 6-0. Armstrong would tally his first of the season two and a half minutes later with assists from Tyler Fyfe and Overvall. Fyfe would net his first of the year to close out the high scoring second with a lone assist going to Spaedt. After two, the Bulldogs held a commanding 8-0 lead.
Dicesare's second of the game would come only 1:11 into the second period with Bohn grabbing the single assist. Gajewski would net the tenth goal of the game at the 8:21 mark of the third, getting assists from Spaedt and Sebastian Smith. Overvall would net the final goal of the game with 13:21 gone with a single assist from Brodie Thornton.
Final score Friday night would be 11-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with Noah Decottignies picking up his sixth career shutout and first of the season.
The same two teams would take to the ice once again on Saturday afternoon. Nash Hatcher's first of the year would open the floodgates in game two. Justin Jamer and Ethan Klemen would assist. Sebastian Smith scored his first of the season three minutes later at the 5:41 mark with the lone assist going to Nathaniel Mott. Ethan Klemen's first goal as a Bulldog would come unassisted at the 5:56 mark of the first period to make things 3-0. Dylan Gajewski would pick up his fifth of the season three minutes later with assists from Sam Spaedt and Sebastian Smith. Connor Smith would send home a powerplay goal with only 18 seconds remaining in the period with an assist from Dakota Bohn. After one, the Bulldogs held a 5-0 lead.
Spaedt would tally his fifth in four games to start the second period with an assist from Sebastian Smith. DiGiulio would grab his third of the season at the 3:41 mark of the second with assists from Connor Smith and Jamer. Klemen would net his second of the day, this time with assists from Hatcher and Jamer, at the 6:20 mark. Gajewski would send home his second of the game halfway through the period with the single assist going to Spaedt. Connor Smith would light the lamp on the powerplay for the second time a minute later with an assist from Bohn. DiGiulio's second of the game would round out the scoring during a busy second period on an unassisted effort. After two, the Bulldogs held an 11-0 lead.
Connor Smith would complete the hat trick only 46 seconds into the third period with an assist from Bohn yet again. Brodie Thornton's second of the season would close out the scoring for the day on an unassisted effort at the 8:21 mark.
Final score Saturday afternoon would be 13-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with Dylan Knighton picking up his first shutout as a Bulldog.
The MD1 team takes on rival UM Dearborn on Thursday night at 7:30pm at Arrington Ice Arena.
