MD1 Nets 13 in Sweep of Ohio
The MD1 team took on the Ohio University Bobcats this weekend in a home-at-home matchup.
Sam Spaedt wasted no time getting on the board to fire up the crowd in a packed house for Rivalry Night on Thursday evening. Spaedt's goal would be assisted by Manny Silverio. Tyler Fyfe would make things 2-0 only seven seconds into the first Bulldog powerplay of the evening. Chris Donaldson would pick up the lone assist. The Bobcats would pull within one at the 16:18 mark but Connor Smith would answer back twelve seconds later. Brodie Thornton would pick up the assist. The Bobcats would once again pull within one before the end of the first but Donaldson would put away a powerplay goal with less than a second on the clock and the Dawgs would take a 4-2 lead into the first intermission. Fyfe and Matteo DiGiulio would assist on Donadlson's buzzer beater goal.
The Bobcats would tally the lone goal of the second period five minutes in and the Dawgs would hold a 4-3 lead going into the final period of play.
Donaldson would net his second of the game with 1:04 gone in the third frame. Spaedt and Silverio would pick up assists. Spaedt would send home an empty netter with twenty seconds left in the game for his second of the night and the Dawgs would come away with a 6-3 win. Noah Decottignies would pick up the win in net for the Dawgs.
The same two teams would face off once again on Friday night, this time in Athens, Ohio at Ohio University.
Connor Smith's second of the weekend would be the icebreaker with 3:14 gone in the first period on the powerplay. Dakota Bohn and Manny Silverio would assist. The Bobcats would tie things up before the end of the second for the first and only time on the weekend and the two teams would head into the second 1-1.
Smith would snag his second of the night on the powerplay once again at the 1:46 mark of the second period. Sam Spaedt would collect the assist. Sheldon Nolan's first of the year would open the floodgates on a five minute major powerplay for the Dawgs at the 10:36 mark of the second. Chris Donaldson would pick up the lone assist. Henrik Overvall would net another powerplay goal two minutes later for a 4-1 lead with the assist going to Brenden Stanko. Bohn would pick up his first of the weekend with only twelve seconds left in the second while four on four, sending one home top corner on an unassisted effort. After two, the Dawgs would lead 5-1.
Spaedt would pick up his third of the weekend halfway through the final frame with Silverio one again grabbing the assist. Matthew Dicesare would net the final goal of the game with 13:27 gone in the third on an unassisted effort and the Dawgs would come away with a 7-1 victory to cap off the sweep. Noah Decottignies would once again pick up the win between the pipes.
The Dawgs return to Arrington Ice Arena this Friday night when they take on the University at Buffalo in the first of two home games on the weekend.
