Gajewski Nets Natural Hat Trick in MD1's Split with Liberty






The MD1 team took on Liberty University this weekend in a two game home series against the #5 ranked Flames.


The Bulldogs struck first in game one on Friday night at Arrington Ice Arena. Dylan Gajewski's eighth of the season would open the scoring with assists from Sebastian Smith and Sam Spaedt.

The Flames would even things up in the second frame with the lone goal of the period coming at the 11:22 mark.


Sebastian Smith's third of the year would give the Bulldogs the 2-1 lead at the 16:04 mark with Gajewski and Brodie Thornton. The Flames would tie the game once again in the final ten seconds with the extra skater to force overtime.


The Flames would score once and the Bulldogs would fail to find the back of the net in the shootout and drop to 6-0-0-1 on the season.


Sam Spaedt would get things going on Saturday afternoon, scoring only thirty three seconds into the second game of the series. Sebastian Smith and Dylan Gajewski would assist. The Flames would even the score at the 13:17 mark on the powerplay. Gajewski's ninth of the season would give the Bulldogs the lead once again with less than two and a half minutes left in the period. Sebastian Smith and Spaedt would assist.


Gajewski would net his second and third of the night consecutively for the natural hat trick, with the second of the night coming at the 9:10 mark and the third at the 11:17 mark. The first would come with assists from Spaedt and Dakota Bohn and the second with a single assist from Matt Cruz. After two, the Bulldogs would hold a 4-1 lead over the Flames.


Tyler Fyfe's second of the season would make things 5-1 with only 2:06 gone in the third period. Henrik Overvall and Ethan Klemen would assist. The Flames would tally another on the powerplay five minutes later to cut the lead to 5-2. Nash Hatcher's second of the year would come at the 11:24 mark for the final goal of the game. Justin Jamer and Brendan Stanko would assist.


Final score would be 6-2 in favor of the Bulldogs with Noah Decottignies picking up the win in net.


The Bulldogs head to the road for a rare Wednesday afternoon contest this week against the Oakland University Grizzlies. Puck drop in Rochester, Michigan on Wednesday is 3:30pm. The Dawgs are back at Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday against the Grizzlies, puck drops at 7:30 pm.
