Barrett Breaks Shutout Record as MD1 Dominates Ohio




The #2 ranked MD1 team took on Ohio University for the third and fourth time in the past two weekends in their second home at home series with the #7 ranked Bobcats.


The two teams first did battle down in Athens, Ohio on the road at Bird Arena.


The Bulldogs struck first on Friday night at the 8:55 mark with Dominic Moore scoring his fifth goal of the year. Sam Spaedt and Brenden Stanko would assist. The Bobcats would score off of a strange play five minutes later and the two teams would be tied 1-1 heading into the second period.


The Bobcats would score the lone goal of the second period to pull ahead, but the next 82:24 of the series between the two teams would be all Bulldogs.


Matteo DiGiulio wasted no time in the third period, scoring a powerplay goal with only thirty-seven seconds gone in the third. Tyler Fyfe and Chris Donaldson would assist. DiGiulio would score his seventh of the season three minutes later while even strength, this time with the lone assist going to Connor Smith, and the Bulldogs would once again have the lead over the Bobcats. Austin Kuhn's third of the year would give the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead midway through the third period. Dakota Bohn would be awarded the only assist. Luke Burke's first as a Bulldog would cap off the scoring and give the Bulldogs a comfortable 5-2 lead in the final three minutes of the game. Mike Finger would grab the sole assist on Burke's goal.


Mike Barrett would make 23 saves on 25 shots for the win between the pipes and the Bulldogs would head home victorious going into the fourth game of the series Saturday night.


Game four of the series and two of the weekend would be all Bulldogs in a penalty ridden Saturday night affair at Arrington Ice Arena with the two teams combining for 71 penalty minutes on 22 infractions.


Jordan Oshowy would break the ice on the powerplay at the 4:19 mark of the first period. Tyler Fyfe's team leading 6th powerplay assist would be the lone helper handed out on Oshowy's goal.


Luke Burke would snag his second in two games at the 16:48 mark of the second period with assists going to Dylan Kent and Mike Finger.


Connor Smith would send home the first of three power play goals in the third period, all coming following a five minute major for cross checking by the Bobcats. Dan Stone would pick up the only assist on the goal. Matteo DiGiulio's third of the weekend would come unassisted and on the powerplay thirty-three seconds after Smith's tally. Tyler Fyfe would make it three powerplay goals in three minutes and some change with his seventh of the season coming at the 12:59 mark. Finger would snag the lone assist on Fyfe's goal.


Mike Barrett would pick up the win in net once again, this time pickup up his eighteenth career shutout, giving him sole possession of the team record for shutouts in a career.


The Bulldogs return to play on Thursday night at Arrington Ice Arena at 7:00 pm when they face the Saints of Aquinas College before heading to Davenport University Saturday night.
