#1 MD1 Rolls Past Oakland in GLCHL Playoffs
The #1 ranked MD1 team took on the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Friday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Michigan for their first game of the GLCHL Playoff Tournament.
The two teams would play twenty minutes of scoreless hockey to start the second frame tied at 0-0. Manny Silverio would break the ice with only 1:44 gone in the middle frame to give the Dawgs a 1-0 lead. Chris Donaldson and Rainer Glimpel would assist. Tyler Fyfe would knock home a rebound two minutes later to make things 2-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. Austin Kuhn would collect the lone assist. Fyfe would add another with only 1:30 left in the second period, this time with the assists going to Jordan Oshowy and Mike Finger. After two, the Bulldogs would lead 3-0.
Kyle Perkowski would net his thirteenth of the season at the 7:25 mark of the third period. Dominic Moore and Dan Stone would assist. Sam Spaedt would score four on four to give the Dawgs a commanding 5-0 lead with a little under half a period of hockey to go. Connor Smith would net his team leading ninth powerplay goal at the 13:06 mark of the third period. Fyfe and Brenden Stanko would assist. Glimpel would add another powerplay goal at the with 18:54 gone in the final frame with assists from Moore and Silverio to make things 7-0 Dawgs as the final buzzer sounded.
Mike Barrett would pick up the win and shutout between the pipes for your Bulldogs for his twentieth win of the season.
With the win, the Bulldogs head to the GLCHL Championship game where they face off against the Calvin University Knights Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm at the Patterson Ice Center.
