Pair of Third Period Goals Sends #1 MD1 Past Davenport


The #1 ranked MD1 team took on the #10 Davenport University Panthers at Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday night.

Captain Rainer Glimpel got things started quickly for the Bulldogs, netting his twelfth of the season with only 46 seconds gone in the first period. Sheldon Nolan and Chris Donaldson would assist. Manny Silverio would pick up his twentieth of the season three minutes later on an unassisted effort to make things 2-0. The Panthers would score on the powerplay with 1:16 remaining in the period to make things 2-1 Bulldogs going into the middle frame.

The Panthers would tie things up while shorthanded in the second period at the 3:28 mark to tie the game at two. Sam Spaedt would give the Bulldogs the lead once again at the 10:05 mark of the middle frame. Kyle Perkowski and Domenic Moore would assist. The Bulldogs would hold a 3-2 lead heading into the third and final period of play.

Silverio would score 58 seconds into the third period to give the Bulldogs a more comfortable 4-2 lead. Glimpel and Donaldson would assist. Mark Fratarcangeli would snag his career-high nineteenth of the season at the 2:16 mark of the third for a 5-2 Bulldog lead. Tyler Fyfe would pick up the lone assist on the goal. The Panthers would score even strength to cut the lead down o 5-3, but the Bulldogs would prevail, killing off a five minute major in the final five minutes of the game and come out victorious.

Final score Thursday night would be 5-3 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett picking up the win in net.

The two teams square off once again tomorrow night in Grand Rapids, where the Bulldogs have the chance to pick up their eighth regular season GLCHL title with at least a point in tomorrow's contest. The Dawgs return home next Thursday night, February 13th, against the University of Toledo Rockets.
