#1 MD1 Continues to Roll with Sweep of Calvin


The #1 ranked MD1 team took on the Calvin University Knights this weekend in a two game GLCHL home-at-home series.

Jordan Oshowy broke the ice Thursday night at Arrington Ice Arena, netting a powerplay goal at the 14:36 mark of the first frame. Tyler Fyfe and Chris Donaldson would assist. Mark Fratarcangeli would make things 2-0 less than two minutes later with assists from Fyfe and Austin Kuhn. After one, the Bulldogs lead the Knights 2-0.

Henrik Overvall would net his second of the season thirty seconds into the middle frame to put the Bulldogs up 3-0. Dan Stone would tally the lone assist on Overvall's goal. Donaldson would score 35 seconds later to give the Dawgs a 4-0 lead. Rainer Glimpel and Manny Silverio. Donaldson would net his second of the night at the 4:42 mark of the second frame with the lone assist going to Glimpel. Kyle Perkwoski would net his first of the evening at the 9:31 mark with an assist from Mark Fratarcangeli. Overvall would send home his second of the game a minute later with assists from Glimpel and Steven Szekesy. Brenden Stanko would continue the onslaught of goals, netting his first of the night sixteen seconds later to give the Dawgs the 8-0 lead heading into the final frame. Connor Smith and Marcel Kottek would assist on Stanko's tally.

Smith would score the lone goal of the final frame to make things 9-0 as the final buzzer sounded.

Final score Thursday night would be 9-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett picking up the shutout between the pipes.

The Bulldogs would then travel to Grand Rapids to take on the Knights on the road.

The two teams would be scoreless through the first twenty minutes before Rainer Glimpel would break the tie at the 3:25 mark of the second period on an unassisted effort. Brenden Stanko would net his second of the weekend ten minutes later on the powerplay with an assist from Connor Smith. The Knights would score on a penalty shot with 1:57 remaining in the second but a goal from Dan Stone with 38 seconds left would once again give the Bulldogs a two goal lead. Henrik Overvall would assist on Stone's goal.

Dakota Bohn's first career goal would be the first of four goals in the last ten minutes of the game. Stanko and Mike Finger would assist on Bohn's goal. Mark Fratarcangeli would net his second of the weekend less than two minutes later with assists from Tyler Fyfe and Jordan Oshowy. Stanko would net his second of the game and third of the weekend on the powerplay with an assist from Smith once again. Manny Silverio would finish a beauty of a play from Dominic Moore with 1:31 left in the third period, also while on the powerplay, to close out the game by a score of 7-1. Moore and Marcel Kottek

Final score Friday night in Grand Rapids would be 7-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Andrew Wagner picking up the win in net.

The Bulldogs are back in action this Thursday evening against the Davenport University Panthers for their final GLCHL series of the season. Puck drop at Arrington Ice Arena is 7:00 pm.
