#1 MD1 Puts up 7 in Statement Win Against #3 Dearborn
The #1 ranked MD1 team took on heated rivals, the #3 University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines on Thursday night at Arrington Ice Arena.
Tyler Fyfe kicked things off in the first period, capitalizing on the first Bulldog pwerplay opportunity of the evening at the 3:41 mark of the first period. Fyfe's opening goal would be assisted by Jordan Oshowy and Chris Donaldson. Kyle Perkowski would net his eighth od the season on an odd man rush, letting off a last minute shot as he was being pestered by the Dearborn defenseman. Dominic Moore would assist on Perkowski's goal. Fyfe would add his second of the night at the 6:17 mark, beating the defenseman in a foot race into the neutral zone and cruising in on the goaltender where he would send home his thirteenth of the season. After one, the Bulldogs held a 3-0 lead.
Rainer Glimpel would bury a rebound with 2:59 gone in the second period to extend the Bulldog lead to 4-0. Manny Silverio would be awarded the lone assist. Mark Fratarcangeli would add to the lead at even strength at the 16:22 mark of the second on an unassisted effort. Brenden Stanko would notch the second Bulldog powerplay goal of the evening less than two minutes later to give the Bulldogs a commanding 6-0 lead heading into the final period of play.
Stanko's second of the night would be the lone goal of the third period and the Bulldogs would walk away with a 7-0 win over the #3 Wolverines.
Mike Barrett would pick up the win in net, stopping all 26 shots he faced while Andrew Wagner would come in part way through the third and turn away all 7 shots faced.
The two teams square off once again on Friday night in Dearborn for the second game of the home at home series. Puck drops at 7:00 pm. The Bulldogs return next semester on January 16th against Oakland University.
