#1 MD1 Sweeps Stony Brook in First Road Series


The MD1 team took to the road this weekend to take on the Sea Wolves on Stony Brook University.

Tyler Fyfe would start things off for the Bulldogs on Long Island Friday night with his fourth powerplay goal of the season. Brenden Stanko and Chris Donaldson would collect assists on Fyfe's goal. The Sea Wolves would answer back with a goal of their own at the 13:15 mark five minutes later. Kyle Perkowski would send home an errant shot from the blue line that would give the visiting Bulldogs a 2-1 lead, much to the surprise of the Stony Brook goaltender and those watching and even those on the ice. Marcel Kottek would be awarded the lone assist on Perkowski's goal. Brenden Stanko would send home one more for good measure before the period's conclusion with an unassisted effort. After one, the Bulldogs lead the Sea Wolves 3-1.

The Sea Wolves would pull within a goal in the dying seconds of a second period powerplay at the 4:21 mark of the middle frame. Brenden Stanko would answer back with a 5 on 3 powerplay goal, completing a beautiful tic tac toe play to regain the two goal lead. Jordan Oshowy would notch the assist. Dominic Moore would send home his ninth in eleven games less than a minute later, this time on the 5 on 4 powerplay. Manny Silverio and Rainer Glimpel would assist on Moore's goal. After two periods of play, the Bulldogs would lead 5-2.

Mark Fratarcangeli would add the final goal of the game at the 18:41 mark of the third period, pulling off a beautiful tip off of a shot from Kottek, who would be awarded the lone assist.

Final score Saturday night would be 6-2 Bulldogs with Mike Barrett picking up the win between the pipes.

Brenden Stanko's third goal in two games would put the Bulldogs on top 1-0 to start out the first period Sunday afternoon as he sent home a powerplay goal. Connor Smith and Chris Donaldson would be awarded assists. The Sea Wolves would tie things up at 1-1 on a powerplay and the two teams would be deadlocked through the first twenty minutes of play.

Manny Silverio would send home a go ahead goal with 11:29 gone in the second period, collecting a rebound and taking advantage of the Stony Brook goaltender going down to make a save. The home team would tie things up again, this time at two a piece and while even strength and would then come back to take their first lead of the weekend. The home team would hold the lead going into the final twenty minutes of play.

Mark Fratarcangeli would be the hero for Adrian, tying the game in the final frame. Fratarcangeli would win the face-off back to Sheldon Nolan who would send a shot at the Stony Brook net. Fratarcangeli would get the tip and goal while Nolan would be credited with the lone assist. Connor Smith would send home the go ahead goal on the powerplay off of a nearly identical play as Brenden Stanko's two powerplay goals this weekend. Sam Spaedt would notch an insurance goal with less than ten minutes remaining in the third and the Bulldogs would take home a 5-3 victory and sweep of the Sea Wolves.

Final score Sunday afternoon would be 5-3 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett once again picking up the win between the pipes.

The Bulldogs return home to Arrington Ice Arena this Thursday night when they take on GLCHL opponent, Eastern Michigan University.
