#1 MD1 Silences Thunder, Sweeps Trine
The MD1 team played host to the Trine University Thunder this weekend in a two game home series to cap off their 8 game home stand.
Alec Daman started things off for the Bulldogs at the 16:01 mark of the first period off of a beautiful unassisted effort. Sam Spaedt would add another to the Bulldog lead less than two minutes later with the lone assist from Manny Silverio. After one, the Bulldogs would lead 2-0.
Daman would add his second of the game at the at the 11:50 mark of the second period with assists from Steven Szekesy and Steven Cope. Dylan Kent would add his second of the season 45 seconds later with assists from Spaedt and Dominic Moore. After two, the Bulldogs would hold a 4-0 lead.
Silverio would score the first of five third period goals at the 5:32 mark of the third period. Marcel Kottek would be awarded the lone assist. Dan Stone would pick up his second goal of the season two minutes later with an assist from Henrik Overvall. Overvall would grab his first collegiate goal at the 13:27 mark on an unassisted and shorthanded effort. Dominic Moore would grab his eighth goal of the year on the powerplay with 16:15 gone in the third. Silverio would grab the lone assists. Cope would score his first as a Bulldog with 11 seconds remaining in the game on an unassisted effort on the powerplay.
Final score Thursday night would be 9-0 in favor of the Bulldogs and Eric Schuch would pick up the shutout, turning away all 22 shots he faced.
The two teams would square off again on Friday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena.
Captain Rainer Glimpel would break the ice on the powerplay at the 6:26 mark of the first period. Marcel Kottek and Sheldon Nolan would be awarded assists. Tyler Fyfe would score his third powerplay goal of the season at the 10:09 mark of the first period with an assist from Brenden Stanko. Stanko would collect his fiftieth career point with the assist on Fyfe's powerplay goal. After the first period, the Bulldogs held a 2-0 lead.
Mark Fratarcangeli would score his eighth goal of the season at the 3:07 mark of the the third period with the lone assist going to Dan Stone. Trine would score their only goal of the weekend on the powerplay at the 12:07 mark. Stanko would grab a goal of his own two minutes later with assists from Stone and Steven Szekesy on the powerplay. Connor Smith would add his third powerplay goal of the year before the second ended, scoring at the 18:39 mark of the second. Stone and Szekesy would assist once again. After two periods, the Bulldogs lead 5-0.
Dominic Moore would score in his fourth straight game at the 2:32 mark of the third and final period. Sam Spaedt and Dylan Kent would assist. Smith would grab his second of the night on the powerplay once again with assists from Szekesy and Stanko. Steven Cope would grab his second of the weekend while four on four for the final goal of the game with 43 seconds remaining. Kent and Mason Vaughan would assist.
Final score Friday afternoon would be 8-1 Adrian with Andrew Wagner picking up the win between the pipes, turning aside 21 of 22 shots he faced.
The Bulldogs travel to Stony Brooke University next weekend to take on the Sea Wolves in a two game road series. They return to Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday, November 14th when they take on the Eastern Michigan University Eagles in the first of a two game home-at-home GLCHL series.
