#1 MD1 Extinguishes the Flames, Sweeps Liberty
The #1 ranked MD1 team took on the #4 Liberty University Flames this weekend in a two game home series at Arrington Ice Arena.
Dominic Moore would once again score the first goal of the contest on Friday night, netting his sixth goal of the season at the 3:01 mark of the first period. Marcus Rose would be awarded the lone assist. The Flames would tie things up at the 11:57 mark of the first period. Manny Silverio would give the Bulldogs the lead once again at the 13:46 mark of the first off of an unassisted effort. Rose would add a goal of his own four minutes later with assists from defensemen Steven Szekesy and Marcel Kottek. Brenden Stanko would tip in a shot from Dan Stone with 49 seconds left in the first to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead going into the second frame.
Tyler Fyfe would add his seventh of the season at the 9:33 mark of the second for the lone goal of the period. Mark Fratarcangeli would notch the only assist.
Connor Smith would score his team leading ninth goal of the season at the 1:34 mark of the first period on the major powerplay. The Flames would score two goals in a one minute span to cut the Bulldog lead down to 6-3. Silverio's second of the night would come at the 14:46 mark for the final goal of the game on the powerplay. Rose would pick up the lone assist.
The Bulldogs would pick up the win by a score of 7-3. Mike Barrett would pick up the win, stopping 19 of 20 shots while Andrew Wagner would turn away 10 of 12 shots faced in the final 20:49 of the game.
The second game of the series would be a much lower scoring affair with no goals scored in the first 58:22 of the game.
Dominic Moore would be the hero with 1:38 to play, netting the game winning goal with under two minutes to play. Marcus Rose and Kyle Perkowski would assist.
Mike Barrett would pick up the win and shutout in net, turning away all 29 shots he faced.
The Bulldogs are back at Arrington Ice Arena this Thursday when they face off against Trine University.
