MD1 Takes Home 3 Major GLCHL Awards


The awards for the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League were announced today and the MD1 team took home a number of awards, including all three of the major awards.

Junior goaltender Mike Barrett was named the 2019 GLCHL Playoff MVP as well as to the First Team All League. Fellow juniors Joe Costello and JP Grineau would join Barrett on the First Team All League.

Junior forward Rainer Glimpel would be the lone representative on the Second Team All League and senior captain and forward Justin Fisher would be named to the All Defensive team.

Freshman forward Brenden Stanko would be named the Rookie of the Year as well as to the All Rookie Team. Defenseman Dante Raposo and forward Manny Silverio would both join Stanko on the All Rookie Team.

Head Coach Gary Astalos would be named GLCHL Coach of the Year for the third time in his three years of coaching with the Bulldogs. During his time as head coach of the Bulldogs, he has compiled a 99-6 record overall and a 51-2 record in GLCHL play, along with three straight Regular Season titles and back to back Playoff Titles.

The Bulldogs are back on the ice in Dallas, Texas for the National Tournament on Friday at 2:30 pm EST when they take on the winner of Missouri State vs. Buffalo.
