Women's NCAA Edges Eagles in Overtime to Advance to Frozen Four
The Women's NCAA team travelled to Elmira, New York to take on the Elmira Soaring Eagles for the fourth straight season in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
The Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead in the first period off of a powerplay goal from Kortney Diaz with assists from Jacqueline White and Maggie Mitter followed by an even strength goal from Jessica Von Ruden later on in the period. Von Ruden's goal would be assisted by Mitter and Julia Barrett.
A pair of second period powerplay goals from the Eagles and a scoreless third period would lead the two teams to overtime for the second time in their Quarterfinals history.
Von Ruden would be the hero 17:38 into the overtime period, scoring the overtime winner to send the Bulldogs to the Frozen Four for the second time in program history and the second time in the last four years. Taylor Henthorne and Mitter would assist.
Final score would be 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs with Denisa Jandova picking up her 9th straight win, stopping 50 of 52 shots faced while playing 77:36 between the pipes.
The Bulldogs will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota and face the Plattsburgh State Cardinals in the NCAA Semifinals this coming weekend on March 15th.
