After going 3-0 in round robin play Friday and Saturday, the Women's ACHA D2 team faced off against the Loyola University-Chicago Ramblers for the CCWHA D2 Playoff Title this morning in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Kathleen Droba gave the Bulldogs an early lead with 6:24 gone in the opening frame. Droba's goal would be assisted by Maria Granger. The Ramblers would answer back seven minutes later to tie things at one a piece heading into the middle frame.
Droba's second of the morning at the 10:17 mark would be the eventual game winner as the Ramblers would fail to get anything past Victoria Poland for the remainder of the game. Ally Van Antwerp would assist on the game winner.
Final score would be 2-1 Sunday morning with Poland picking up the win in net, making 31 saves on 32 shots. For the first time in team history, the Bulldogs were the CCWHA Playoff Champions and only the second team to take both the regular and post season titles.
The Bulldogs now head to Frisco, Texas for the ACHA Women's DII National Tournament during the last week of March for their second tournament appearance in their second season in program history.
