MD1 Sweeps Calvin to End Regular Season 30-2

The MD1 team took on the Calvin College Knights this past weekend for their final series of the 2018-19 regular season.

The Bulldogs would first play host on Thursday night for their final regular season home game.

The first period would go by scoreless and the Knights would be the first to find the back of the net at the 3:57 mark of the second period. Joe Costello would tie things up with a powerplay tally with 7:18 gone in the second with the lone assist going to Chris Donaldson. Tyler Fyfe would finish off a beautiful tic tac toe play less than two minutes later, the lone assist going to Rainer Glimpel. After two, the Bulldogs would hold a 2-1 lead.

Manny Silverio would snag his 13th goal of the season in the third period with assists from Donaldson and Justin Fisher to give the Bulldogs a more comfortable 3-1 lead. The lead would hold through the final 8 minutes of play and the Bulldogs would go out victorious as the final buzzer rang. Mike Barrett would pick up the win between the pipes with 14 saves on 15 shots against.

The Bulldogs would then travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan Saturday night for their regular season finale on the road against the Knights.

Brenden Stanko would net the first goal of the game at the 17:59 mark of the first period of play. Joe Costello and Mike Finger would assist. After one, the Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead.

Finger would pick up a goal of his own at the 5:30 mark of the second frame, tipping a shot from Dan Stone. Stone and Steven Szekesy would assist. After two, the Bulldogs would lead 2-0.

Kyle Perkowski would crash the net and grab his 11th goal of the season forty seconds into the third period of play. Chris Donaldson would notch the lone assist. Calvin would answer back with their first goal of the game eight seconds later. Finger's second of the night would give the Dawgs a 4-1 lead with 8:34 gone in the third period. Stanko would tally the lone assist. Rainer Glimpel would net the final goal of the game at the 9:58 mark of the final frame with JP Grineau picking up the only assist.

Final score Saturday night in Grand Rapids would be 5-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Andrew Wagner picking up the win in net.

The MD1 team finishes the regular season with a record of 30-2 for the third straight season with at least 30 wins. The Bulldogs now head to the GLCHL Playoffs where they will play host this weekend from March 7-9. The MD1 team will play the lowest remaining seed on Friday at 4:00 pm at Arrington Ice Arena.
