Women's NCAA Sweeps St. Norbert, Advances to Slaats Cup Finals
The Women's NCAA team, the 2019 NCHA Regular Season Champions, took on the St. Norbert College Green Knights in a two game quarterfinal series this weekend at Arrington Ice Arena.
Hannah Dalrymple set the tone 20 seconds in, scoring off of assists from Brooke Schembri and Lexi Grunden. Jacqueline White would score 11:00 later to put the Bulldogs up by two. Shelly Czarnowczan and O'Sullivan would assist. Brianna Buchanan would give the Bulldogs a comfortable 3-0 lead at the 15:50 mark of the first period with assists from Tory Harshman and White. Taylor Henthrone would grab an unassisted goal 44 seconds later and Dalrymple would net her second of the period with 2:52 to play and the Bulldogs would end the first period up by a commanding 5-0 score.
White would net her second of the night as the lone goal of the second frame. Harshman and Buchanan would assist. The Green Knights would score their only goal of the game 20 seconds into the third frame, but the Bulldogs would answer back with three unanswered goals in the final twenty minutes of play. Jessica VonRuden would answer back ten seconds after the Green Knights goal with assists from Henthorne and O'Sullivan. Harshman would net her first goal and third point of the night at the 4:46 mark of the third coming off of assists from Buchanan and White. White would complete the playoff hat trick with 13:50 gone in the third with an assist going to Rylee Bates.
Final score would be 9-1 in favor of the Bulldogs in game 1 of the series with Denisa Jandova picking up the win in net, stopping 13 of 14 shots that came her way.
Kortney Diaz would kick things off Saturday afternoon at the 9:33 mark of the first period. Brooke Schembri and Hannah Dalrymple would assist. Jessica VonRuden would make it 2-0 Bulldogs before the end of the first, scoring her second of the weekend with assists from Taylor Henthorne and Jessica Anderson. The Bulldogs would head to the second period outscoring the Green Knights 2-0 and outshooting them 20-0.
The second frame would go by scoreless and Maggie Mitter's first of the playoffs would come at the 2:45 mark of the third period. Julia Barrett and Neysa Miller would assist. Brooke Schembri would make things 4-0 in favor of the home team with 15:00 gone in the third period. Rylee Bates and Diaz would assist. Jacqueline White would close out the scoring with a powerplay goal at the 18:25 mark of the third, giving her six points on the weekend. Harshman and Diaz would assist.
Final score Saturday afternoon would be 5-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with Denisa Jandova picking up her 6th shutout of the season.
With the win, the top-seeded Bulldogs advance to the Slaats Cup Final next Sunday at Arrington Ice Arena where they will face the winner of the Lake Forest vs. St. Scholastica semifinal.
