MD1 Sweeps Robert Morris-Illinois
The MD1 team took on the Robert Morris-Illinois Eagles this weekend in a two game road series in Bensenville, Illinois.
Justin Fisher would net the first goal of the game in the first period to give the Bulldogs the first lead of the game at the 7:19 mark of the first period. Chris Donaldson and Kyle Perkowski would assist. The Bulldogs would hold the 1-0 lead until 15:02 into the second period when the Eagles would notch their first goal of the game to tie things up at 1 a piece.
Mark Fratarcangeli would give the Bulldogs the lead once again off of assists from Dante Raposo and Rainer Glimpel on the powerplay. The Eagles would net a powerplay goal of their own before the end of the period to send the two teams into overtime.
The five minute three-on-three overtime would go by scoreless and the two teams would go into a seven round shootout where Brenden Stanko would score the eventual game winning goal.
Final score Friday night would be 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett picking up the win in net.
The two teams would face off once again Saturday night in Illinois to close out the weekend series.
The first twenty minutes of play would go by scoreless between the two teams before Dominic Moore would break the ice with only 36 seconds gone in the second period. Dante Raposo would be awarded the lone assist. Justin Fisher would add a four on four goal at the 10:24 mark of the second period to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Fisher's goal would be unassisted. Moore would add his second of the night at the 15:08 mark of the second period on the powerplay. Rainer Glimpel would tally the lone assist.
Fisher's second of the night would come at the 35 second mark of the third period off of an assist from Cooper McLean on the penalty kill. Mason Vaughan's second of the season would give the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead in the third period with the lone assist going to Dan Stone. Manny Silverio would cap things off for the Bulldogs with their final goal of the weekend at the 12:11 mark of the third. Jordan Oshowy would add the only assist. The Eagles would snap Mike Barrett's shutout streak at the 14:18 mark, but the Bulldogs would hold out for a 6-1 game with Barrett picking up the win.
The MD1 team returns to action at Arrington Ice Arena this Thursday night at 7:15 pm when they face in-state rival, University of Michigan Dearborn.
