Women's Varsity Secures Spot in Slaat's Cup Playoffs with Sweep of Concordia
The Women's NCAA team took to the road for the second weekend in a row this weekend, looking to bounce back from a loss and tie last week at the hands of the Lake Forest College Foresters.
Brianna Buchanan would net the first of 13 goals on the weekend at the 7:46 mark of the first period. Jacqueline White and Anna Shepherd would assist. Maggie Mitter would net another less than a minute later with assists from Neysa Miller and Lexi Grunden. After two, the visiting Bulldogs would hold a 2-0 lead.
Kortney Diaz would give the Bulldoga a 3-0 lead in the second period with assists from Shepherd and Hannah Dalrymple. Jessica Von Ruden would net the seocnd of two second period Bulldog goals at the 19:20 mark. Buchanan would grab the lone assist.
White would net a goal of her own on the powerplay at the 13:47 mark of the third and final period of play. Von Ruden and Buchanan would assist. The Falcons would score their lone goal of the game at the 17:55 mark of the third.
Final score Friday night would be 5-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mia Glassco picking up the win in net.
Maggie Mitter would score the first of four first period goals on Saturday afternoon, assisted by Julia Barrett and Kelly O'Sullivan. Rylee Bates would score ten minutes later with assists from Jacqueline White and Shelly CzarnowcZan. Kortney Diaz would net her first of three consecutive goals at the 18:47 mark of the first. Brooke Schembri and O'Sullivan would assist.
Diaz would net her second of the night as the lone second period goal at the 3:14 mark of the second period. Schembri and Hannah Dalrymple would assist.
Diaz would complete the natural hat trick 1:43 into the third period with Dalrymple and Schembri assisting once again. Schembri's fourth point of the night would come as a goal at the 3:55 mark of the third off of an unassisted effort. Bates' second of the night would make the final score 8-0 to complate the sweep for the visiting Bulldogs. Schembri and Barrett would assist.
FInal score Saturday afternoon would be 8-0 Bulldogs with Denisa Jandova picking up the win and shutout between the pipes.
The Women's NCAA team returns home this weekend when they take on the St. Norbert College Green Knights in a two game home series Friday and Saturday night.
