Men's Varsity Falls to St. Norbert, Upends Finlandia to Split Weekend
The Men's NCAA team took to the road this weekend to take on St. Norbert College and Finlandia University on Friday and Saturday.
The Bulldogs would first faceoff against fierce rival, the St. Norbert College Green Knights on Friday night. The Bulldogs would fail to score a goal in the contest and would drop the game by a score of 7-0.
The travelling Bulldogs looked to get back to winning ways the next afternoon against the Finlandia Lions. Matt McNair would draw first blood with the first goal of the weekend while shorthanded at the 13:02 mark of the first period. Dino Balsamo would add an assist on the only goal of the first period.
Braden Hellems would tally an even strength goal with 6:18 gone in the second to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Vinny Post would pick up the lone assist. The Lions would pull within one a minute and a half later and the Bulldogs would head to the third period with a slim 2-1 lead.
Vincent Paquette would give the Bulldogs a two goal lead once again at the 2:12 mark of the third period with an assist from Connor Armour. The Lions would answer back a minute later to cut the lead down to one goal once again. Balsamo's first of the night would be a quick answer to the Lions' goal, coming 21 seconds later with an assist from Austin Bottrell, and the Bulldogs would hold a 4-2 lead. The Lions would once again pull within one with 9:39 gone in the final frame, but Bryan Yim would add an empty net goal with 10 seconds remaining to seal the deal for the Bulldogs. Trevor Boyd would assist. With the empty net goal, Yim reached the 100 point milestone in his career.
Final score Saturday afternoon would be 5-3 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs with Justin Crawford picking up his first win between the pipes.
The Men's NCAA team returns home to Arrington Ice Arena this Friday night, February 1st when they take on the Lake Forest College Foresters and then again on Saturday, February 2nd, when they face the Aurora Spartans. Gametime Friday night is set for 7:05 pm while puck will drop at 3:05 pm on Saturday.
