MD1 Edges Stony Brook in Pair of Home Games


The #3 ranked MD1 team took on the #14 ranked Stony Brook Sea Wolves this weekend in a two game home series at Arrington Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs got off to an electric start on Friday night, netting three powerplay goals off of a five minute major powerplay early in the first period. Chris Donaldson would grab the first powerplay goal and Jordan Oshowy and Rainer Glimpel would net the other two. Cooper McLean would score even strength to make things 4-0 in favor of the home team right after the penalty expired. CJ Nicholson's first of the season would give the Bulldogs a commandng 5-0 lead. Joe Costello would net the Bulldogs' fourth powerplay goal of the game early in the middle frame. Tyler Fyfe and Manny Silverio would assist. Kyle Perkowski would beat out a Sea Wolves defender in the offensive zone and score one even strength to close out the scoring in the second. Donaldson and Austin Azzinarro would assist. The Sea Wolves would snag a pair of goals, one even strength and one five on three powerplay, to end the second period. After two, the Bulldogs would lead 7-4.

The Sea Wolves would score two in the third and come within one, but the Bulldogs would prevail by a score of 7-6. Mike Barrett would pick up the win in net for the Bulldogs.

The two teams would face off once again on Saturday afternoon to close out the series.

Tyler Fyfe would strike first on another five minute major powerplay to kick things off on Saturday. Manny Silverio would snag the lone assist. The Sea Wolves would answer with a 4 on 4 goal to tie things up at 1 a piece before heading into the first intermission.

Mike Finger would be the hero in the second period, scoring what would end up being the go ahead goal off of an assist from Joe Costello. The Bulldogs would hold the 2-1 lead through forty minutes of play.

Mark Fratarcangeli would add an empty net goal to seal the deal with 4.5 seconds remaining in the game with an unassisted effort. Final score Saturday would be 3-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Andrew Wagner picking up the win in net.

The MD1 team travels to Robert Morris-Illinois next weekend for a two game road series with the Eagles before returning home on February 7th when they will face the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 7:15 pm.
