MD1 Picks Up 20th Win of the Season Against Western


In their third game of the weekend, the MD1 team took on GLCHL opponent, the Western Michigan University Stallions, on Sunday afternoonin Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Rainer Glimpel would net the first two goals of the game within two and a half minutes of each other, one on the powerplay and another 4-on-4, midway through the first period. Dominic Moore would pick up the lone assist on the first. Joe Costello would net his team leading 20th goal of the season while even strength to make things 3-0 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs. Costello's goal would be his 45 point in 21 games this season. The Stallions would score their first of the afternoon on a 4-on-3 powerplay to cut the Bulldog lead down to 3-1. Kyle Perkowski would respond soon after with a goal of his own to once again give the Bulldogs a 3 goal lead. Perkowski would then land himself in the box and Jordan Oshowy would follow shortly after to give the Stallions a 5-on-3 advantage where they would cut the lead to 4-2. After one, the Bulldogs lead 4-2.

Justin Fisher would grab his first of the night on the powerplay to start the second period off for the Bulldogs off of an unassisted effort. Cooper McLean would score his second in as many games shortly after to give the Bulldogs a commanding 6-2 lead with the assist going to Michael Tratar. Chris Donaldson would score yet another Bulldog powerplay goal at the 13:11 mark of the second frame to make things 7-2. Tyler Fyfe would cap off the scoring in the second period with a beauty of a goal while even strength to send the two teams into the final 20 minutes of play with a score of 8-2 in favor of the Bulldogs. Moore would pick up the assist on Fyfe's goal.

Mason Vauhn would net his first career goal as a Bulldog to kick off the final frame with an assist from Mike Finger. The Stallions would net their third of the game at the 7;14 mark of the third. The 10th goal of the game would come from Costello with his second of the night at the 9:44 mark with assists from Manny Silverio and JP Grineau. Fisher would net the most entertaining goal of the game with less than five minutes remaining on an unassisted effort. Final score in Kalamazoo would be 11-3 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs with Mike Barrett picking up the win in net.

The Bulldogs return home this weekend for a two game series against the Sea Wolves of Stony Brook College. The two teams square off at 7:00 pm Friday and 1:00 pm Saturday.
