MD1 Skates Past Oakland with Pair of Shutouts


The MD1 team took on the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies this weekend in their first series of games of 2019.

The two teams first squared off on Thursday night at Arrington Ice Arena for the first Bulldog home game of the new year.

Manny Silverio opened the scoring for the Bulldogs at the 4:59 mark of the first period with his 9th goal of the season. Marcel Kottek and JP Grineau would assist. Kottek would grab a goal of his own at the 11:25 mark to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Brenden Stanko and Joe Costello would assist on Kottek's goal. Dominic Moore would score the third goal of the period with 15:11 gone in the first with assists from Kyle Perkowksi and Jordan Oshowy. After one, the Bulldogs would hold a 3-0 lead over the visiting Grizzlies.

Justin Fisher would score his first of the night at the 8:16 mark of the second period. Dante Raposo and Chris Donaldson would pick up assists. Costello's first of the night would come a little over three minutes later, assisted by Mike Finger and Raposo. Silverio's second of the night would be the final goal of the period at the 18:19 mark. Costello and Austin Kuhn would assist. After two, the Bulldogs held a commanding 6-0 lead.

Fisher would snag his second of the night at the 8:27 mark of the first period assisted by Steven Szekesy and Oshowy. Costello would be the third Bulldog to score two in the contest two minutes later with assists from Grineau and Silverio. Perkowski would close out the scoring at the 11:09 mark of the third and final frame. Donaldson and Andrew Wagner would assist.

The final score Thursday night would be 9-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with Andrew Wagner grabbing the win and the shutout between the pipes.

The Bulldogs would travel to Rochester, Michigan the next night to take on the Grizzlies on home ice. Cooper McLean would grab the first goal of the game early on in the first period. Rainer Glimpel would make things 2-0 midway through the first frame of play and Manny Silverio would net his third in two games to close out the scoring through twenty minutes. Joe Costello and Mike Finger would assist on Silverio's goal.

Costello would net a goal of his own in the second with helpers from Silverio and Tratar to make things 4-0 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs. Chris Donaldson would net the final goal of the game in the third period to close out the scoring.

Final score Friday night in Rochester would be 5-0 in favor of the Bulldogs would Greg Maggio picking up his first career shutout between the pipes.

The Bulldogs are set to take on the Western Michigan Stallions Sunday in Kalamazoo and will return to home ice on Friday, January 25th when they play host to the Stony Brook SeaWolves at 7:00 pm.
