Men's Varsity Sweeps Salve Regina in Non-Conference Series


The Men's Varsity team took on the Sea Hawks of Salve Regina this weekend in a non-conference series. This weekend marked only the second and third times the two teams faced off against one another with the first coming at the Codfish Bowl last season.

The first twenty minutes of play would go by scoreless between the two top 10 ranked teams. Bryan Yim would be the first to find the back of the net at the 2:45 mark of the second period with an even strength goal. Jared Domin and Bryce Van Horn would add assists on Yim's goal. Connor Armour would strike on the powerplay with 13:57 gone in the second frame. Armour's powerplay tally would be assisted by Yim and Trevor Boyd.

The third and final frame would go by scoreless and the Bulldogs would come out with a 2-0 victory with Keven Entmaa picking up the shutout between the pipes.

Saturday evening's game would be a much higher scoring affair, with Braden Hellems picking up the first of a flurry of goals on the powerplay. Cory Dunn and Connor Armour would assist on the powerplay goal at the 12:51 mark of the first period. Dino Balsamo would add a second powerplay goal two and a half minutes later with assists from Hellems and Trevor Boyd. After one, the Bulldogs would lead the Sea Hawks 2-0.

The visiting Sea Hawks would get on the board for the first time in the two game series at the 5:01 mark of the second period to snap the Bulldog lead in half. Boyd would give the Bulldogs a two goal lead once again with 17:12 gone in the middle frame with an even strength goal. Armour and Austin Bottrell would assist on Boyd's goal. Balsamo's second of the night would come with only 8 seconds left in the second period to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead. Dunn and Armour would assist on Balsamo's second tally. After two periods of play, the Bulldogs held a 4-1 lead over the Sea Hawks.

Hellems would strike again on the powerplay 5:34 into the third period of play. Dunn and Balsamo would add assists. The Sea Hawks would grab a pair of goals, one powerplay and one even strength, before Balsamo would complete the hat trick with an empty net goal to seal the victory with 17 seconds remaing in the game.

Final score Saturday evening would be 6-3 in favor of the Bulldogs and Kevin Entmaa would once again pick up the win in net.

The Bulldogs will play once more in 2018, hosting the SUNY Canton Roos at Arrington Ice Arena on December 30th to cap off the 2018 calendar year.
