Krug Picks Up 100th Win with Men's NCAA Team Against Plattsburgh


The Men's NCAA team took a trip out East this weekend for the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout this Thanksgiving weekend.

The Bulldogs began the weekend against the host team, the Norwich Cadets.

Bryan Yim would net his 8th of the year to start the scoring Friday night. Matt McNair and Cory Dunn would add assists. Norwich would answer with two goals before the end of the period to make things 1-2 in favor of the home team.

Yim's second of the game would make things equal at two a piece at the 14:58 mark of the third and final period of play. McNair and Dino Balsamo woul add assists. The Cadets would pull ahead once again at the 17:26 mark of the third and hold the lead through the end of the contest. Final score Friday night would be 2-3 in favor of the Cadets.

Bryce Van Horn would start things off against Plattsburgh at the 2:36 mark of the first period Saturday afternoon on an unassisted effort. Bryan Yim's team leading tenth of the year would make things 2-0 in the first. Braden Hellems and Dino Balsamo would assist. After one, the Bulldgs would lead 2-0.

The Cardinals would strike at the 43 second mark of the second period to cut the Bulldog lead in half. Matt McNair would add his second in as many games at the 10:16 mark with assists from Dean Hewines and Balsamo. After two, the Bulldogs would hold a 3-1 lead.

The Cardinals would once again strike in the first minute of the period in the final frame but the Bulldogs would answer with two third period goals. Balsamo would score the first of the two at the 13:33 mark with assists from McNair and Yim. Trevor Boyd would add an empty net goal with 27 seconds remaining to secure the win.

Final score Saturday evening would be 5-2 in favor of the Bulldogs with Kevin Entmaa picking up the win in net. With the win, head coach Adam Krug records his fiftieth win behind the bench for the Bulldogs and Trevor Boyd picks up his 100th career point with the empty net goal Saturday evening.

The Bulldogs are on the road once again next weekend when they take on St. Scholastica and Northland. They return home the 7th and 8th of December when they face the Salve Regina SeaHawks at Arrington Ice Arena.
