MD1 Sweeps Eastern Michigan in GLCHL Series
The MD1 Bulldogs took on conference foes the Eastern Michigan University Eagles this weekend in a home at home series.
JP Grineau would send home a powerplay goal in the first period Thursday night to start things up for the Bulldogs at home. Joe Costello and Brenden Stanko would assist on the powerplay tally. Jordan Oshowy would add a second Bulldog goal 1:20 later to put the home team up by two in the first period. Justin Fisher and Chris Donaldson would add assists. Donaldson would go top shelf at the buzzer on the powerplay to put the Bulldogs up 3-0. Rainer Glimpel and Manny Silverio would assist on Donaldson's buzzer beater. After one, the Bulldogs would hold a 3-0 lead over the Eagles.
Dominic Moore would add a fourth Bulldog goal at the 13:08 mark of the second period with assists from Tyler Fyfe and Marcel Kottek. Costello would add his 11th of the season 14:49 mark of the second. Stanko and Grineau would add assist on Costello's powerplay tally. Stanko would add a goal of his own with less than two minutes remaining in the period to put the Bulldogs up 6-0 after the second period. Costello and Mike Finger would add assists. After forty minutes of play, the Bulldogs would hold a 6-0 lead over the Eagles.
Silverio would score the first of two third period Bulldog goals at the 6:47 mark of the third period with assists from Glimpel and Moore. Glimpel would add one last Bulldog goal with 51 seconds remaining in the contest on an unassisted effort to make things 8-0 as the final buzzer rang out.
The Bulldogs would pick up the 8-0 win with Andrew Wagner picking up the win and shutout between the pipes.
Joe Costello would kick things off for the Bulldogs on Friday night on the road in Ann Arbor at the 7:11 mark of the first period. The Eagles would answer back seven minutes later to tie things up at 1 a piece. Marcel Kottek would give the Bulldogs the lead once again at 14:51 mark with assists from Rainer Glimpel and Cooper McLean. Kottek would add another less than a minute later to give the Bulldogs a more comfortable two goal lead. Brenden Stanko would pick up the lone assist on Kottek's second of the night. After the first, the Bulldogs would hold a 3-1 lead over the Eagles.
The Eagles would cut the Bulldog lead down to 3-2 at the 2:28 mark of the second period. Stanko's second in as many games would give the Bulldogs a two goal lead once again at the 6:32 mark of the second with assists from Costello and JP Grineau. Manny Silverio would score in the dying seconds of the second period with assists from Costello and Stanko to make things 5-2 going into the third period.
Neither team would find the back of the net in the final twenty minutes and the Bulldogs would head back to Adrian with the sweep and Mike Barrett would grab the win in net.
The Bulldogs will be back in action this coming Tuesday night at Arrington Ice Arena against the University of Michigan Dearborn at 7:00 pm.
