Men's Varsity Downs St. Norbert in Overtime to Sweep the Weekend

The Men's NCAA team took on two separate opponents this weekend in a two game homestead at Arrington Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs' first opponent would be the Lions of Finlandia University, whom the Bulldogs had previously beat in the last 22 out of 23 contests between the two teams.

Cory Dunn would kick things off for the Bulldogs less than two minutes into the first period on Friday night. Michael Montambault would be awarded the lone assist. Matt McNair would strike on the powerplay at the 5:05 mark of the first period to put the Bulldogs up 2-0. Vincent Paquette and Bryan Yim would assist on McNair's powerplay tally. After one, the Bulldogs would lead the Lions by a score of 2-0.

Joey Colartarci's first of the season would be the lone goal of the middle from. Colatarci's goal at the 18:52 mark would be assisted by Matt Eller and Connor Armour. After two periods of play, the Bulldogs would hold a 3-0 lead.

Braden Hellems would send home a powerplay goal 25 seconds into the third period to put the Bulldogs up by 4. Hellems' goal would be assisted by Dunn and Armour. The Lions would grab a shorthanded goal on a breakaway seven minutes later to cut the Bulldog lead down to 4-1. Montambault would close the scoring out for the night on the powerplay 24 seconds later with his first goal as a Bulldog. Brandon Marinelli and Trevor Coykendall would assist on Montambault's first Bulldog goal.

Final score Friday night would be 5-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Kevin Entmaa picking up the win in net.

The Bulldogs would take on their fierce rivals the St. Norbert College Green Knights, the defending national champions. The Bulldogs and Green Knights' rivalry, which dates back to 2011, was last played out at Arrington Ice Arena in March when the Green Knights beat the Bulldogs for the Harris Cup. But the contest prior, the Bulldogs woud come out with an overtime victory.

The Green Knights sent home three goals in the first two periods of play to send the Bulldogs to the final frame in unfamiliar territory as they were down by 3.

Cory Dunn would send home an unassisted goal at the 1:46 mark of the first period to cut the Green Knights' lead to 3-1 with an unassisted effort. Bryce Van Horn's first goal as a Bulldog would pull the Bulldogs within one at the 11:34 mark of the third period. Van Horn's goal would be assisted by Dunn and Connor Armour. Bryan Yim would tie things up for the Bulldogs with only 1:19 left in the third period to send the two teams to overtime. Dino Balsamo and Van Horn would assist on the game tying goal. Yim would once again be the hero at the 1:45 mark of overtime as he sent home the game winning goal on a wrap around.

Final score Saturday afternoon would be 4-3 in favor of the Bulldogs while Kevin Entmaa would once again pick up the win for the Bulldogs.

The Men's NCAA team is back at Arrington Ice Arena next Friday night, November, 16th, when they host the Trine Thunder.
