MD1 Sweeps Syracuse in First Road Series


The MD1 team took on the Syracuse University Orange in their first road series this weekend in Syracuse, New York.

Manny Silverio kicked things off in the first period for the Bulldogs with his third goal in two games. The Orange would tie things up less than two minutes later, but Tyler Fyfe would put the Bulldogs up 2-1. Fyfe's goal would be assisted by JP Grineau and Mark Fratarcangeli. After one, the Bulldogs would lead 2-1.

Marcus Rose would send home his 6th goal of the season at the 7:17 mark of the second period to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead. Joe Costello would grab the lone assist. Rainer Glimpel would tally his first of the night at the 15:40 mark of the second with assists from Jordan Oshowy and Dante Raposo. After two, the Bulldogs would lead the Orange 4-1.

Justin Fisher would score the lone goal of the third period with assists from Silverio and Oshowy. Final score Friday night would be 5-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett picking up the win in net.

Game 2 of the series would be a back and forth battle down to the final seconds of the game with the Orange picking up the first goal of the game at the 5:16 mark. Mike Finger would tie things up with a goal assisted by Tyler Fyfe. An unassisted effort by Chris Donaldson would give the Bulldogs their first lead of the night at the 10:06 mark but the Orange would tie things up before the end of the first. After one, the two teams would be tied at 2 a piece.

The Orange would gain the lead once again in the second period the 3:44 mark of the middle frame. Justin Fisher would tie things up for the Bulldogs exactly two minutes later with assists from Manny Silverio and Joe Costello. The Orange would grab their final lead of the night at the 13:39 mark of the second period but Costello would tie things up in the final two minutes of the second period with assists from Silverio and Dominic Moore. After two, the Bulldogs and Orange were deadlocked at 4 a piece.

Moore would be the third period hero for the Bulldogs, tallying the fifth Bulldog goal of the game assisted by Fyfe. The Bulldogs would hold onto their one goal lead through the final 9:15 of the game. Final score Saturday night would be 5-4 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett once again picking up the win in net.

The Bulldogs return to Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday night when they face GLCHL opponent, Eastern Michigan University, at 7:15 pm.
