MD1 Sweeps University of Alabama


The MD1 team took on the University of Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend in a two game home series at Arrington Ice Arena.

Mike Finger kicked things off Friday night for the Bulldogs, scoring at the 5:31 mark of the first period with assists from Mark Fratarcangeli and Austin Kuhn. Fratacangeli would add a goal of his own 14 seconds later with assists going to Jordan Oshowy and Dante Raposo. Steven Szekesy would send home a bardown goal off of a pass from Brenden Stanko to put the Bulldogs up 3-0. Stanko and Oshowy would be awarded assists on the goal. Stanko would send home a goal of his own with 1:28 left to play to close out the scoring for the first period. Rainer Glimpel and Marcel Kottek would be awarded assists.

Cooper McLean opened the scoring in the second at the 3:18 mark of the second frame with assists from Stanko and Joe Costello. Alabama would get on the board at the 6:44 mark for their lone goal of the game. Finger would snag his second od the night five minutes later with assists from Oshowy and Fratarcangeli. Justin Fisher would send home a shorthanded goal off of a pass from Fratarcangeli with less than three minutes remaining in the second to send the two teams into the final twenty minutes of play with a 7-1 lead. Fratarcangeli and Dan Stone would be awarded assists on the shorthanded goal.

Dante Raposo would send home one final Bulldog goal on the powerplay at the 15:58 mark of the third to close out the scoring for both teams. Stone and Kyle Perkowski would both be given assist on Raposo's tally. Final score Friday night would be 8-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett picking up the win between the pipes.

The two teams met once again at Arrington Ice Arena the next day at 3:00. Kyle Perkowski would get things started Saturday afternoon, scoring at the 4:14 mark of the first period with assists from Mike Finger and Brenden Stanko. Stanko would grab a goal of his own five minutes later to put the Bulldogs up 2-0 ini the first ten minutes of play. Chris Donaldson and Marcel Kottek would be given assists. After one, the Bulldogs would lead 2-0.

Dominic Moore would score the first of two Bulldog goals at the 12:50 mark of the second period with assists from Rainer Glimpel and Tyler Fyfe. Joe Costello would add the second of the period 5 minutes later to put the Bulldog up 4-0 after 40 minutes of play. Finger and JP Grineau would assist on Costello's goal.

Fyfe would send home his first as a Bulldog and the first of six third period goals for the home team. Glimpel and Grineau would assist on Fyfe's goal. Costello would put up his second of the afternoon with 3:23 gone in the third and final frame. Grineau and Finger would pick up assists on Costello's second of the game. Moore would add his second of the game less than a minute later off of assists from Raposo and Costello to make things 7-0 Bulldogs. Alabama would get on the board at the 5:42 mark of the third to cut the Adrian lead to 7-1. Justin Fisher would pick up his second goal in as many games 4 minutes later with assists from Donaldson and Stone. Alabama would come back and score their second goal of the game 40 seconds later to make things 8-2 in favor of the home team. Austin Kuhn would answer back less than three minutes later, extending the lead to 9-2 with assists from Fratacangeli and Manny Silverio. Moore would complete the hat trick with 4 minutes left in the game with assists from Steven Szekesy and Stone to close out the scoring for the game.

Final score Saturday afternoon would be 10-2 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett once again picking up the win between the pipes as the Bulldogs completed the sweep of the Crimson Tide.

The MD1 team will be back at Arrington Ice Arena this Friday night when they square off against #5 Liberty University for Fraternity Night Friday night at 7:00 pm.
