WACHA Sweeps Michigan State in First League Series

WACHA took the ice in a home at home series with the Michigan State Spartans this weekend in their first ACHA matchups of the season.

First, the Bulldogs travelled to East Lansing to take the Spartans on on home turf.

Sam Fortune would get the ball rolling for the Bulldogs, scoring 13:17 into the first period with an assist from Kaillie Hardy. The Spartans would tie things up 21 seconds later and the two teams would head into the second deadlocked at 1 a piece.

Tanya Candido's first as a Bulldog would break the tie in the second period at the 4:05 mark of the second. Colby Donald would be awarded the lone assist. Brittany Levasseur would add her first of the year off of assists from Olivia Ziemba and Huntyr Bosher three minutes later to give the Bulldogs a two goal lead. The Spartans would pull within one once again at the 9:56 mark of the second before Hardy and Nicole Paradis would add a pair of unassisted goals and Katrina Robinson would add her first goal as a Bulldog assisted by Taylor Murcek to close out the period 6-2.

The Spartans would score a pair of third period goals, but the Bulldogs would come out on top by a score of 6-4 on Thursday night with Dana Columbo picking up the win between the pipes.

The Bulldogs opened their regular season at home the next night against the Spartans at Arrington Ice Arena. The Spartans would kick things off first this time, but the Bulldogs would respond with first period goals from Brittany Levasseur and Huntyr Bosher. Levasseur's goal would come unassisted while Bosher's first in an Adrian sweater would be assisted by Olivia Ziemba and Freya Holferty. After one, the Bulldogs held a 3-1 lead over their CCWHA rivals.

After a scoreless second frame, Kaillie Hardy would add her second in as many games with an assist from Nicole Paradis. Leah Williams would grab her first as a Bulldog at the 8:48 mark of the third assisted by Taylor Murcek. Samantha Fortune and Ziemba would close out the scoring for the Bulldogs in the third. Fortune's goal would be assisted by Hardy and Jessica Harrison and Ziemba's goal would come unassisted.

Final score Friday night in Adrian would be 6-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Columbo picking up the win once again.

The Bulldogs are back at Arrington Ice Arena next weekend, October 20th against the Aquinas Saints.
