MD1 Scores 20, Sweeps Rochester College in Two Game Series


The MD1 team took on the Rochester College Warriors in their first home-at-home series of the 2018-19 season.

The Bulldogs first travelled to Fraser to take on the Warriors on the road on Thursday night. The first twenty minutes would go by scoreless before Marcus Rose scored the Bulldogs' first goal of the season at the 8:14 mark of the second period. Marcel Kottek would grab the lone assist. Rose would score again 4 minutes later, this time with an assist from Jordan Oshowy. Mark Fratarcangeli and Joe Costello would also score before the end of the period to put the Bulldogs up 4-0 after two. Kottek and Dante Raposo would pick up assists on Fratarcangeli's goal while Brenden Stanko would be awarded the lone assist on Costello's goal.

Rainer Glimpel would waste no time in the third, scoring 22 seconds into the final frame of play with assists from Dominic Moore and Manny Silverio. The Warriors would cut the lead down to 5-1 a minute and a half later. Rose would complete the hat trick at the 2:41 mark of the third, assisted by Costello. Justin Fisher would pick up his first of the season 8 minutes later with assists from Glimpel and Silverio and Dan Stone would close out the scoring at the 14:26 mark with assists from JP Grineau and Mike Finger.

Final score Thursday night would be 8-1 in favor of the Bulldogs with Mike Barrett picking up the win in net.

The Bulldogs would open the season at home Friday night against the Warriors once again in front of a packed home crowd.

They would waste little tim on Friday night, scoring the first goal of the game at the 1:30 mark off of a shot from the point from Steven Szekesy. Szekesy's goal would be assisted by Jordan Oshowy. Austin Kuhn would add another at the 3:03 mark of the first with the lone assist going to Dan Stone. Assistant captain Cooper McLean would add an unassisted goal 14 seconds later to put the Dawgs up 3-0 in the first 3:30 of the contest. Marcus Rose would snag his fourth in two games ten minutes later with assists from Brenden Stanko and Marcel Kottek. Mark Fratarcangeli would score a pair of back to back goals 7 seconds apart with assists from McLean and Kuhn to put the Dawgs up 6-0. Dominic Moore would add one more at the 16:49 mark to send the Bulldogs into the first intermission up by 7. Chris Donaldson and Rainer Glimpel would assists on Moore's goal.

The Warriors would cut the lead down to 7-1 at the 4:40 mark of the second period before Brenden Stanko would be the first freshman to light the lamp for the Bulldogs a minute later. Rose and Joe Costello would assist on Stanko's first as a Bulldog. Fratarcangeli would complete the hat trick at the 17:55 mark of the second with an assist from Kuhn. Kyle Perkowksi would add a shorthanded goal at the 19:06 mark of the second to put the Bulldogs up 10-1 going into the second. Justin Fisher would be awarded the lone assist on Perkowski's goal.

The Bulldogs would go on a five minute penalty kill to start the third period where the Warriors would only score once and the Bulldogs would score shorthanded once again. Stanko's second of the night would come on the penalty kill at the 6:17 mark with the lone assist going to Marcus Rose. Kuhn's second of the night would make it a dozen at the 12:31 mark with the lone assist going to Mark Fratarcangeli.

Final score Friday night in Adrian would be 12-2 in favor of the Bulldogs with freshman Greg Maggio picking up his first win between the pipes as a Bulldog.

The Bulldogs return to Arrington Ice Arena next Sunday at 7:00 pm when they take on the Mercyhurst Lakers.
