MD1 Downs Sarnia in Exhibition Contest
The MD1 team took to the ice for their first game since March this evening against the Sarnia Legionnaires of the GOJHL in their lone exhibition contest of the season.
The two teams would remain deadlocked at 0 for the first twenty minutes of play before freshman Brendan Stanko broke the tie in the second period with a shot from the slot. Stanko's goal would be assisted by Joe Costello and JP Grineau. The Legionnaires would tie the game up once again before the end of the period and the score would remain tied through forty minutes of play.
Sophomore Kyle Perkowski would score the game winner off of a partial breakaway to give the Dawgs the lead once again early on in the third period. Perkowski's goal would be assisted by Chris Donaldson and Marcel Kottek. Freshman Tyler Fyfe would add an empty netter in the final minute of the game to give the Dawgs a 3-1 lead and their first victory of the season.
All three Bulldog goaltenders would see the ice in the contest. Junior Mike Barrett would stop 8 out of 8 shots on net, while freshman Greg Maggio would stop 3 of 4 shots and sophomore Andrew Wagner would stop 5 of 5.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday night in Fraser, Michigan when they take on Rochester College. The Bulldogs open their regular season at home the next evening to kick off Adrian College Homeciming with Alumni Night at 7:00 pm.
