MD1 Takes Home National Honors
After a landmark season that was capped off with the first National Title in team history, the MD1 Bulldogs have now taken home a slew of National honors.
First, head coach Gary Astalos was named National Coach of the Year on April 9th. It was no surprise to Bulldog hockey fans and probably not for the rest of the league either, as the Bulldogs tore through the ACHA this season and led the league in nearly every category including the best record, most goals for and fewest goals against.
Austyn Roudebush would then be named the ACHA MD1 Player of the Year earlier this afternoon, marking the second time in team history that a Bulldog would take home the award. Roudebush was not the only Bulldog to be a contender for the prestigous award, fellow senior Brad Kobryn, who was tabbed the 2015 and 2018 Player of the Year and the first Bulldog to be given the honor, was one of four finalists for the award as well.
Roudebush and Kobryn would both be named 1st Team All American while sophomore rookie Joe Costello would be named 2nd Team and sophomore defenseman JP Grineau 3rd Team All American. Freshman blueliner Jordan Oshowy would be named to the All Rookie Team as well as one of four finalists for the national Rookie of the Year Award. This was Roudebush's second All American honor after being named 3rd Team All American his freshman year. This was Kobryn's fourth All American nod after being named 1st Team All American his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons as well. It would be Grineau's first All American nod as well as Costello's.
