MD1 Head Coach Gary Astalos Named ACHA D1 Coach of the Year
After a record breaking season in his second season behind the bench for the MD1 team, Head Coach Gary Astalos has been named the ACHA Men's D1 Coach of the Year.
Astalos lead the Bulldogs to their first National Semifinal appearance last season in a heartbreaking 4-2 loss to the Ohio Bobcats. This season, he lead the MD1 team to their best record in team history of 34-1 en route to their first National Championship title in their 11 year program history.
Under the leadership of Coach Astalos, the Bulldogs have amassed a 67-5 record overall and have won 2 regular season GLCHL titles, 1 playoff title and now 1 National Championship title. The Bulldogs have also gone 36-0 on home ice at Arrington Ice Arena.
Astalos was named the 2017 GLCHL Coach of the Year last season as well as the 2018 GLCHL Coach of the Year, he is also the quickest coach to reach 50 wins in a career behind the bench for the Adrian College Hockey program's history, earning win #50 this past December in his 54th game coached.
