Captain Mat Thompson to Make Professional Debut with Indy Fuel
After a heartbreaking end to the 2017-18 season on Saturday, Men's NCAA team captain Mathew Thompson will make his professional hockey debut tonight, Tuesday night, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Thompson was part of the Bulldogs leadership team from the very beginning, wearing an A in his freshman year with the team and the C in his final two seasons as a Bulldog.
Thompson, a native of Bolton, Ontario, racked up 61 goals and 67 assists for 128 points in his 105 games played as a Bulldog, which include 21 powerplay goals, 2 shorthanded goals, 12 game winning goals and 4 hat tricks.
This season, Thompson was named the NCHA Player of the Year, his first Player of the Year award, to cap off his final regular season of his college career.
Thompson will make his debut with the ECHL's Indy Fuel, the AA affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, as they take on the Cincinnati Cyclones tonight at 7:35, making him the 15th former Men's NCAA team member to play professional hockey in the 11 year program history.
