Men's Varsity Falls to St. Norbert in Overtime of Harris Cup Final
It was once again a battle between the Adrian College Bulldogs and the St. Norbert College Green Knights for the Harris Cup this Saturday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena. This game marked the fourth consecutive Harris Cup Final game that the two teams have met in.
A scoreless first period would leave the nearly 1,000 fans packed into Arrington Ice Arena at the edge of their seats. Captain Mat Thompson would score off of a tic tac toe feed from Taylor McCloy and Kyle Brothers, sending home a goal back door at the 17:58 mark of the second period. The Bulldogs would head to the locker room 20 minutes away from the Harris Cup and a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs would be called for boarding at the 8:28 mark of the third period and then hooking at the 9:33 mark, leaving them on the bad end of a 5 on 3 powerplay. The Green Knights would score at the 10:02 mark of the third period to even things up at 1 a piece.
After multiple back and forth chances for both teams, things would head to overtime for the third time this season.
The Bulldogs would send the first shot of the overtime period at St. Norbert goaltender TJ Black but the Green Knights would send home the game winning goal at the 3:19 mark of the 20 minute overtime to reclaim the Harris Cup, snapping the Bulldogs nation leading 16 game win streak.
Despite the hard fought loss to the Green Knights, the Bulldogs made their presence known on the All Tournament Team. Taylor McCloy, who racked up 12 points in the five games of the NCHA tournament, would be named to the All Tournament Team alongside Captain Mat Thompson, who notched 7 points in the playoffs. Cory Dunn was named All Tournament on defense.
The Bulldogs now await the D3 Selection Show this Monday to find out who their next opponent will be.
