Thompson and Krug Awarded Top NCHA Honors


The NCHA awards for the 2017-18 season were announced this afternoon and the Bulldogs took home two of the three top awards.

Senior captain Mat Thompson was named the NCHA Player of the Year netted 15 goals and notched 17 assists for 32 points in 28 games played this season, good for third on the team overall.

Head Coach Adam Krug was named the NCHA Coach of the Year for the second time in his four seasons with the Bulldogs. Coach Krug has lead the Bulldogs to the longest winning streak in the nation in any division with 16 consecutive victories dating back to the beginning of January. Coach Krug has amassed a record of 92-19-6 in his four years as the Bulldogs head coach.

All NCHA teams were also announced this afternoon as well and two Bulldog assistant captains would make the list.

Senior forward Taylor McCloy received his first All NCHA nod in his final year as a Bulldog. McCloy came into the playoffs off of his best season of his career, he would then go onto have mulitgoal games in all three playoff games so far into the NCHA Playoffs, including two hat tricks in the last two games. McCloy leads the team in points with 36 and goals with 23. McCloy is also tied for the all time shorthanded goals record with 7 shorthanded goals in his career.

Junior defenseman Cory Dunn received his third All NCHA nod as well this season. Dunn currently leads the team in assists with 27 and 3 goals for 30 points. Dunn has been named All NCHA all three seasons of his career and All American twice in his time as a Bulldog.

The Bulldogs take on the St. Norbert College Green Knights this coming Saturday at 2:00 pm in the Harris Cup Final for the fourth straight year at Arrington Ice Arena.
