Adrian College Sending 4 Teams to ACHA National Tournament
Adrian College will be making its presence more than known down in Columbus, Ohio in the next coming weeks. March 8th will officially kick off the first ACHA National Tournament of the 2018 season.
The Men's D1 team was the first to qualify for the tournament, earning the autobid back on February 1st when they defeated Eastern Michigan to clinch the GLCHL Regular Season Championship. This will be the 8th consecutive National Tournament appearance for the MD1 team. Last season, they placed 4th in the tournament for the best finish in program history. MD1 will play their first game of the tournament against a to be determined opponent on Friday, March 9th at 4:30 pm.
The Women's ACHA D1 team would be the next team to qualify for the tournament with a victory in the CCWHA Playoff Championship last Sunday afternoon in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This marks the 5th appearance for WACHA at the Big Dance, the WACHA Bulldogs have also appeared in three straight National Semifinal games as well. WACHA will begin their best of three series with the University of Massachusetts on Wednesday, March 14th at 6:45 pm.
MD2 will be making their first National Tournament appearance in their first year as a D2 team. The Bulldogs shocked the Central Region, knocking out #6 Grand Valley State University and #3 McKendree University to claim a spot in the National Tournament. The MD2 Bulldogs will take on William Paterson in their first game of pool play on March 9th at 5:00 pm in Columbus.
WD2 will also be making their first appearance at the National Tournament in their inaugural season at Adrian College. The WD2 team did not advance past pool play in the CCWHA playoffs this past weekend, but made it to the National Tournament ranked #5 in the West Region to advance to Columbus. The WD2 tournament will begin on March 14th and the schedule will be determined in the next few days.
With four teams competing at the National Tournament, the Bulldogs will have representation at every level of the tournament but the MD3 level. Historically, the Bulldogs will now have had teams compete at every level of the tournament with the MD3 team making appearances in 2012-14 and 2017 where they would win the National Title in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
