Men's Varsity Shuts Out Long Time Foe MSOE to Win Regular Season
The Men's NCAA team took on the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders on a snowy Friday night at Arrington Ice Arena for Pink the Rink. The pink and red jerseys weren't the only thing that clashed on the ice, the Bulldogs and Raiders have a longstanding rivalry, going all the way back to the Bulldogs' inaugural season in which the two teams battled it out in the Harris Cup Semifinals, which the Bulldogs won on MSOE's home ice that season.
Kyle Brothers kicked things off with a powerplay goal at the 12:44 mark of the first period, Cory Dunn and Bryan Yim would add assists. Dean Hewines' first goal as a Bulldog would give the home team the 2-0 lead with only 5 seconds remaining in the first period. Dino Balsamo would add the lone assist on Hewines' first goal. After two, the Bulldogs lead the Raiders 2-0.
Trevor Boyd would score the lone goal of the second frame with 1:49 remaining in the period. Hewines and Ryan Cusin would assist on Boyd's tally. After two, the Bulldogs held a 3-0 lead.
Brothers would add another powerplay goal in the third, sending home his second of the game at the 1:12 mark of the third period. Dunn and Yim would assist once again. Mat Thompson would add a shorthanded goal on the penalty kill 2 minutes later to put the home team up 5-0. Yim would grab the lone assist. Taylor McCloy would add a shorthanded goal to close out the scoring for the night on an unassisted effort.
Final score Friday night would be 6-0 in favor of the Bulldogs with Kevin Entmaa picking up the win and his 5th shutout in 15 games this season. With the win, the Bulldogs clinched the Peters Cup for the NCHA Regular Season title, their 10th in their 11 year program history and grab their 12th consecutive win for the longest win streak in the country.
The Bulldogs take on the Concordia University Falcons this afternoon for senior day before hosting the Raiders once again next weekend in the first round of the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs.
