MD1 Sweeps Illinois State
The MD1 team hosted the Red Birds of Illinois State University this past weekend at Arrington Ice Arena for a two game series.
Marcus Rose started things out for the Bulldogs at the 9:13 mark of the first period. Dominic Moore and Rainer Glimpel would add assists. Chris Donaldson would net his first of the night at the 17:01 mark with assists from Justin Fisher and Josh Hosking to close out the scoring for the first period. After one, your Bulldogs held a 2-0 advantage.
Brad Kobryn's 150th career goal would extend the Bulldog lead to 3-0 with 4:47 gone in the first with assists from Mark Fratarcangeli and Cooper McLean. The Red Birds would get on the board at the 5:12 mark of the second to cut the Bulldog lead to 3-1. Moore would give the Bulldogs a 3 goal lead once again with assists from Glimpel and Donaldson at the 8:25 mark of the second. Fisher would send home a beautiful top shelf shot 14 seconds later with assists from Archie McKinnon and Mike Finger. Kyle Perkowski would score on a breakaway with 5 minutes left in the second from McKinnon and Fisher to close out the second period. After two, your Bulldogs would hold a 6-1 lead over the visiting Red Birds.
Kobryn's second of the night would be good for his 230th career point to tie the program record for points. Rose and Perkowski would pick up assists on Kobryn's goal. Glimpel would net one of his own 33 seconds later with assists going to Hosking and Moore. Donaldson added his second of the night at the 12:51 mark of the third with assists from Hosking and JP Grineau. Newcomer Matt Millan would net his first goal as a Bulldog in his first game with assists from McKinnon and Finger for the final Bulldog goal of the game.
Final score Saturday night would be 10-1 in favor of your Bulldogs with Austyn Roudebush picking up his 13th win of the season.
Sunday afternoon, the two teams would face off once again for the second game of the series.
Dominic Moore would start things off for the Bulldogs at the 4:35 mark of the first period with assists from Marcel Kottek and and Rainer Glimpel. Joe Costello's 17th of the season would give the Bulldogs up by 2 less than two minutes later with assists from Kottek and JP Grineau. After one, the Bulldogs would have a 2-0 lead.
The Red Birds would cut the lead in half with 2:26 gone in the second period. Jordan Oshowy would answer less than a minute later with a goal of his own from Moore and Chris Donaldson. Mike Finger would grab one of his own less than a minute after that from Kyle Perkowski and Justin Fisher. After two, the Bulldogs held a 4-1 advantage.
The Red Birds would pull within two in the third period but Donaldson would net two goals in 31 seconds to give the Bulldogs the 6-2 lead. Josh Hosking and Archie McKinnon would assist on the first goal while McKinnon and Fisher would assist on the second.
Final score Sunday afternoon would be 6-2 in favor of the home team with Austyn Roudebush picking up his 14th win of the season in net.
The Bulldogs are back at Arrington Ice Arena on Thursday, February 1st when they face off against GLCHL foe the Eastern Michigan University Eagles. With a win on Thursday, the Bulldogs could clinch the regular season title, top seed in the playoffs and a bid to the 2018 National Tournament.
