Men's Varsity Downs Lake Forest and Aurora


The Men's NCAA team took on two divisional opponents this weekend at Arrington Ice Arena.

Friday night, the Bulldogs took on the Foresters of Lake Forest College. Cory Dunn would strike first at the 6:27 mark of the first period with assists from Mat Thompson and Braden Hellems. Dunn would add a second goal nine minutes later off of an unassisted effort to give the home team a 2-0 advantage. Bryan Yim would add a third goal in the first to leave things at 3-0 going into the first intermission. Thompson and Joey Colatarci would add assists on Yim's goal.

The Foresters would score at the 8:31 mark of the second period to cut the Bulldog lead down to 3-1. Dino Balsamo would answer with a goal of his own 7 minutes later to give the Bulldogs the 3 goal lead once again. Trevor Boyd would be awarded the lone assist on the goal. After two, the Bulldogs would hold a 4-1 lead.

Taylor McCloy would grab a beautiful shorthanded goal on the penalty kill for the Bulldogs at the 6:48 mark of the third and final frame. Hellems and Boyd would be given assists on the shorthanded goal. Lake Forest would add one more goal of their own but the Bulldogs would come out on top by a score of 6-2 with Keven Entmaa picking up the win.

Trevor Boyd would get things started Saturday afternoon when the Aurora Spartans came to town. Dino Balsamo would be awarded the lone assist on Boyd's first of the afternoon. Kyle Brothers would add a powerplay goal three minutes later with assists from Taylor McCloy and Mat Thompson. Cameron Cooper would add a third first period goal from the point at the 10:21 mark of the first. Thompson and Bryan Yim. After one, the Bulldogs would hold onto the 3-0 lead.

Boyd's second of the game would come at the 6:43 mark of the second frame, this time assisted by Balsamo and Ryan Cusin. Aurora would grab a powerplay goal to get on the board as well. After two, the Bulldogs would lead 4-1.

A pair of goals from Balsamo 1:22 apart would make things 6-1 in favor of the home team by the time the buzzer sounded. Cusin would assist on both Balsamo goals while Hellems and Boyd would assist on the first and second respectively.

Dillon Kelley would pick up the W for the Bulldogs in the 6-1 victory over the Spartans.

The Bulldogs travel to MSOE and Concordia this coming weekend before hosting St. Norbert and Finlandia on the 26th and 27th of January.
